I have recently found out I am pregnant. I am 22, a recent college grad, and have no health insurance. I would like to apply for medicaid but I know that you need proof of pregnancy when you apply. I obviously can't go to the doctor because I have no insurance. Just need some advice on how to go about all this!

I got a free pregnancy test at my local health department. You might try that.

Or call a crisis pregnancy clinic and they might also offer you a free (or greatly discounted) test as well as other great pregnancy resources.

When applying for Medicaid you can sometimes have them reimburse you for medical services performed before the application is approved. Just let your OB know that you are waiting for approval and they might defer the billing.

You can start the application process before you have proof in hand. They give you 30 days to submit all your documentation while the application is being processed. Ask at the county office when you apply if they know of any clinics that offer free / cheap testing (like Planned Parenthood or the like).

Don't wait to see the doctor until you've been formally approved. Make the appointment. If you are approved for maternal medicaid, they will back-pay for all pregnancy related appointments if it's been within the past three months.

Go to your local welfare office and they will give you an application and you have to fill it out and then take some additional information up there such as..birth cert, id, proof of pregnancy. They will let you know what all you need and then it shouldnt take long!

i went to planned parenthood and they charged me about 20 dollars for a pregnancy test. then they gave me proof of pregnancy and i took it down to dhs and applied for medicaid.

just look for a planned parenthood or a free clinic to get proof of pregnancy. it shouldn't cost that much.
