He was single for 10 years after his divorce before we met and some of his old habits just cant be broke. I have known him now for 5 years and married for 2 and he just refuses to budge. Biggest pet peeve is comes home from work at midnite and doesnt think he has to clean up so when I complained he just started sleeping on the sofa. what to do? I should explain he is addicted to the tv and falls asleep with it on most nites and his job is very dirty . when he was single he hardly ever slept in his bed , the couch was awfully dirty from too much use and got thrown away.

I have tried joining him in the shower and after a little fun in the bedroom he still goes back out to watch tv and falls asleep. And yes I have a cover on the sofa but have threatened to throw it out. the sofa not the cover.haha

I love him very much and our sex life is great for our age. I guess I will have to keep him and maybe buy him a more comfortable sofa. At least I get a good nights sleep. Might cut down on the work on weekends so we can see more of each other .

Thanks Southern Comfort for the other side. Appreciate it and agree he is a keeper. Even with all his little foibles. I love him to death.

Too true GoldWing and I do appreciate both him and the good night sleep. But I too was alone for 10 years and miss cuddling up in the middle of these cold nites in Minnesota. A gal has to warm her feet somehow.

He is used to the sofa. I, too was so used to sleeping alone it has taken 7 yrs. of knowing my husband to commit to marriage, give up my own home and move into his. It was traumatic for me. A lot of family and friends could not understand why I hesitated giving up my safe home.
For 2 yrs. I slept with my hubby and then sneaked out of bed and went to the living room. Now 3 yrs after marriage I can sleep in bed all night most nights but still do get up occasionally.
Give the man time. We all are on different wave lengths in adapting.
A couch is a small price to pay for a good marriage. No one knows what goes on in others homes.

No sympathy from me. You saw the couch and knew what you were getting into. The only way you teach old men and old dogs new tricks is with a whip and a hoop and try to get them to jump through.

Hint: It never works. In the end they just sneak out to some place else.

Sounds like he would rather be single. I fall asleep with the TV on most nights. Tv is boring anymore. You should have the shower running when he comes home one night. You be ready to get in. Invite him to join you, in the shower, wash his back and have fun with it. This may bring him around.

I'm surprised nobody told you the obvious solution...get rid of the TV in the livingroom. INSIST that if he is going to fall asleep watching TV, it will be IN THE BED YOU SHARE. Then just make a rule that he has to shower before joining you.

Oh, and get him a REALLY GOOD pair of headphones, so that his watching will not disturb you.

I suggest you quit while you are ahead...seems to me you have the best of both worlds here, gal...Be very careful what you wish for...sofas are cheap, covers are cheap...a good nights sleep is priceless ! Love and peace, Goldwing

Put a plastic slipcover on the couch?

Well, you know what he was like when you married him. I hope you didn't actually think you were going to change him. How about loving him for who he is? If you can't do that, give him the boot.
