I pray for them that they are able to change even when they themselves have given up hope. I think even someone that has made the same mistake 10 times is capable of one day saying, you know what? I can't keep doing this, I need to make a change. There is always hope, but sadly some people will stay stuck and not live their life to their full potential. What then? Well, I guess they lose a lot of friends and family, their jobs, their relationship. It really depends on the size of the mistake that we are talking about.

Is this person mentally retarded? Oh, mentally retarded people learn. Retarded just means slow. I know some retarded people that function well and do better than some that are considered normal. Hmmm So since this person no longer sounds retarded it must be choice. This person is choosing a lifestyle in direct rebellion to who? Sounds like they have learned how to push your buttons and float your boat. Two people trying to control one another sounds like. If it involves a relationship stupidity thing, then it'll eventually go away when they find the right person.
If its just common sense that they don't get, they'll never get it and should be evalutated by a professional :)
