I have been stationed all over the world and everytime I left all I wanted to do was come home. I have been stationed in so many cities across the nation that I don't even have a home town, I am a military gypsy. While stationed or in some foriegn country all the locals could do was ask "Is America as wonderful as it sounds?" My reply was always yes. These countries include Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. So I ask again; Why is it so hard to believe that this country is the best in the world today?

You know brother, I've been all over the world myself. I've been to Rome, Venice, Naples, Sicily, Capri, Milan, Paris, Nice, Marsielle, Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid, Ibiza, South Hamptom, Manchester, London, Dublin, Berlin, Frankfurt, Kaiserslautern, Munich, Amsterdam, Austria, Sweden, Croatia, Athens, Mykonos, Ios, Santorini, Crete, Paros, Delos, Goa, Nepal, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, Dubai, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and slew of other countries and cities around the world.

As beautiful and amazing as all of these places were, as much as I enjoyed the culture and the people and cherish the time I got to spend in those places, there is always one overwhelming decision I come to.

There is no place in the world like the good ol U.S. of A.

It's just a fact.

Of course, you know, that is an opinion piece. Other folks in their countries will say that their country is the best.

Kind of like my belief that I had the last greatest dog in the world (I had to have her put down, because her cancer had advanced to the point of her suffering). I'm sure that others might think that they have the last greatest dog on earth.

That said, I live in the U.S. I live below the poverty line (am on a borrowed computer on that person's Internet) and cannot afford to travel abroad. Insurance is a crock.

BUT, I love living here in the U.S. I have no real desire to go abroad. I am not finished seeing my great country (I grew up as a dependent in a military family and we traveled throughout the U.S.). The U.S. has a lot of flaws, no doubt, but it has a lot of beauty, also... beauty in the people, the landscape, the opportunities to help others and to be helped...

So, my opinion is with yours, that the U.S. rocks. I am glad to be a hardworking citizen here.
I hope to relocate to Alaska someday (my favorite place, so far), but I wouldn't mind traveling through the lower 48 a little more and seeing the rest of the U.S.

I do, indeed, love living in the U.S.

First, thanks for your service.

I'd hardly call being proud of the country "adolescent flag-waving." If that flag-waving is for the principles that we are supposed to stand for. If blind allegiance, then sure, but I hope most people who are patriotic are so with the realization that being patriotic is also about questioning the leaders and their policies. Overall, we live in a wonderful country. Of course, there are things in American history past and present, and unfortunately, future, that we won't be proud of. But if we can preserve the principles of liberty, democracy, justice, then being proud is a good thing. Just as blindly saying "America is great" without questioning leaders is bad, so is failing to acknowledge the good this country has done. Could we work on improving social, economic issues? Always. That is what is so great, we are never satisfied, and why we ***** so much.

I guess what I'm saying is sure some of our leaders fall short of deserving our pride, but the principles are still valid, and this country has done more good than bad.

This is a GREAT question!!!....I"ve been wondering the same thing...why is it so popular to trash and hate the very country that God loved you enough to put you in??...the greatest country God ever gave man??? to hate this country is just a way of spitting in His face.......the only thing I can come up with is that Americans have been so spoiled that they have no clue what real misery is...and they feel that because we DO have it so good here that they must feel guilt and feel the need to make everyone feel the guilt too...I too lived outside the US and would NEVER want to leave this country..and the libs in power now hate our president...and will destroy this country if necessary to regain power....its an amazing thing to see...its time for people to WAKE UP!!!>...this is the greatest nation ever...we have freedoms others would do anything to have and we just take it all for granted...

Perhaps it's not realizing that we are the "best" so much as realizing that even though we are there are still problems that need to be addressed to keep us that way.

While it's easy to see advantages in the social or political structures of another country and from that single view point think another country is better, you are correct, as a mix of all these values, Americans do have a lot more going for them overall than many other countries. However it's also easy to see areas in which we need to make some major improvements in order to maintain the advantages of being an American.

in my view rock song stooped being particularly good and quite imaginitive around 1978. by potential of then maximum communities bought themselves out for money and the recording businesses and in turn this became into administration. This administration tied the rock communities witters palms and that they only wrote song that the recording studios needed them to place in writing. The studios concept they knew what became maximum suitable for us Joe public. It became no longer uncommon to pay attention the term: "This team has bought out" interior the mid 70's. case in point, Elton John and attractiveness Slick have been accused of this. From the mid 60's as much as the late 70's writers of rock the place allowed to place in writing how they needed partly do to the certainty many checklist businesses had those (so as that they concept on the time) bigger standards that rock basically did no longer in effective condition into. RCA case in point became reluctant to hold rock into their information in the process the 60's up till, The Jefferson plane broke the mold interior the late 60's with RCA. as quickly as the checklist businesses found out that they the place lacking a potential money industry they hopped on the rock and roll band wagon and rock went into the rubbish pit ever considering the fact that. My opinion. There are some rock artiest that are allowed to nevertheless do what ever they want, like Eric Clapton case in point yet he's one in each and every of very few. in case you think approximately your self a man or woman with actual musical flavor then please try some rock song from this era, as that's commonplace through fact the actual, "experimental era". Ten Years After, Jethro Tull's older late 60's recordings, The Cream, Joe Cocker, Lee Micheal's, Leon Russell, The Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash and youthful, Blind faith, Fleetwood Mac, early crimson Floyd works from the 60's and definite, Led Zeppelins first 3 album that have been released in this experimental era and lots, plenty greater. Led Zeppelins part 2 of album 3 is many times acoustical in case you are able to have self belief. With in the present day's incredible digital remastering of those previous incredible classics, they'll sound very new and clean for somebody who particularly is calling for something new to take heed to. This of course is basically an previous mans opinion yet i desire you will provide this song a try with an open ideas.

It's the old adage that there's no place like home.

I have spent long periods of time in America in various states from Maine to Texas and as much as I enjoyed each one, I would not ever choose to permantely live in any and abandon my home town of London. To me, this is the place that "rocks".

I have a love for the US and for the majority of it's citizens but not for it's present government who are destroying it's respect and credibility and making it a universal laughing stock.

It's not so hard to believe that this is an awesome country.

However, if you're a liberal, you might be going through some times of denial and disbelief.

P.S.- Thank you for serving our great country.

Uh....would evidence to the contrary mean anything to you?

What's this business of a country "rocking"? What is this, a video game or your favorite CD?

It's a lot easier to do some rather adolescent flag-waving then to sit down and investigate the basis for thinking this country is the greatest, isn't it?

What about quality of life? Poverty? Health care? Family life? Crime? Energy conservation? Ecology? Mental health?

You'd find I think that having a garage full of stuff does not make your country great all by itself.

50 years ago I would have agreed with you, but not now.
