RENT.

Why? Well, it could be because it was my first broadway show...but it's really so much more than that.

First, the characters. Not only are the truly unique people, inspiring people, but they are hot! They teach me so much;
Roger - Don't live in the past, your past doesn't determine your future

Mark - By cutting off emotion, you're not letting things affect you. - But that's not a good thing. Speak now, or forever hold your peace.

Collins - Integrity is everything. Don't change for society, and don't lose your dignity. Stick it!

Angel - Going through life doing good deeds is the way to go.

Mimi - Live each day as your last, you can't control your destiny, trust your soul, have your only goals in life be: to be, to be happy, to have fun.

Maureen - Being outrageous requires an outrageous lifestyle, also, don't be afraid of what others think. Also, if you don't speak up, no one hears you!

Joanne - Everyone deserves someone and something, only demand the best, and you'll get it.

Benny - Don't lie, cheat or steal. Also, friendship is thicker than blood.

Second, the music. The music is just amazing! It was the first "rock opera" on broadway, and has such a gritty, rockabilly, awesome, timeless score. The lyrics are truly empowering. "No day but today" is such an uplifting phrase. Also, "Seasons of Love" "Another Day" "Will I" "I'll Cover You" and "What You Own" are so inspiring!

Third, It gave me goals. Prior to discovering this musical, I didn't really have any goals or ideals. I'm sure, I wanted to act, but I didn't really care how and when. But after seeing RENT, I knew that one day, I was going to be in this show, I had to be. I am know the most fiercely determined person I know.

Fourth, friends. RENT has brought me to meet so many people! Some of them are my closest friends.

Fifth, family. Prior to seeing RENT, my Dad and I were not close at all. Now we have this RENT-bridge between us, and are connected. This also is what worked between my brother and I.

Sixth, themes. No day but today, inspiring.

Really, there is so much more that cannot even be said, but what can be said is:

RENT is the best, and my favorite musical.

Rent
Wicked
Phantom of the Opera
and no Broadway list could ever be complete without Les Miserables

I saw Wicked on my 20th birthday via the preshow raffle for $25 tickets, which was amazing. Plus I was in a high school production of Les Miserables.

Tanz der Vampire. Not Broadway, but a German musical.
If you like Broadway, you have to know your foreign musicals too.

But yes, I dearly love Tanz der vampire right now. It has powerful music and great characters. My favorite song is Totale Finsternis (Total Eclipse of the Heart).

Notice the similarities between these two songs ^^

That's what first got me hooked ;-]

Wicked, Rent, Le miz... all of them have characters I can relate to, like in wicked, even though your diferent doesnt mean you should stop trying to make a diference, and dont judge people by the way they look. And Le miz, even though Garosh (cant spell his name sorry.) is really poor and young and SMALL, in a way, he is still the hero of the story. I just love the characters the plot and I want to be in all of them. I want to be Galinda in Wicked most though, my dream role.
