To live life is the purpose of life. What we each do with life is entirely up to us.

leading a life with purpose is a phrase used to proclaim a individual that is driven in a purpose and works toward that goal whole heartedly. Very goal oreintated and often anal.

While leading a life without purpose is often used to describe a person that seems to "go with the flow." Never really doing anything with any true effort. Often looked at as a social LOSER because they don't equate with the "social idea of successful."

The purpose of life is what us as individuals make it to be.
Our religion and beliefs takes a great influence on this.
For some who sticks with morals and virtue,
For some with gods or a God,
some believing none at all but that we were formed from dust particles,
or some just not caring.

It is of your choice to choose in what you believe,
for that makes the purpose of your life.

One that is more meaningful is more towards the idea and fact that there
is a creator, and we must discipline ourselves with the morals and virtue.
Having limits through our acts suiting our religions would take us to the heavens. With this chosen path, a more optimistic, fullfilling, and contented life will be lived with higher purposes.

One whom believes none at all or given a care for the reasoning behind our existence, brings no specified purpose at all. Perhaps, we live by the road of happiness, by finding and discovering what is most fullfilling to our needs.

No purpose unless there is God.

The question, I think, is "what was I put on earth to do?" or "what is my reason for existing?". These types of questions require God.

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bertrand_Russell)

If there is no Creator/God then we are here by natural processes such as evolution and natural processes cannot give us a purpose. Neither living, nor dying, nor reproduction, nor "continuing the species" is a purpose. Those are biological functions and can't give purpose. Does the process of evolution "care" whether we reproduce? Obviously not.

Our human nature demands that we have a purpose for living, and if we reject God, we have to invent some activities that will keep us busy and focused on other things so we won't have time to think about our meaningless existence.

But if we agree that God might exist, then our purpose is to seek Him.

"To live life is the purpose of life". That's a meaningless statement. To have life is to live it so everyone lives their life.

"The purpose of life is happiness." That's just inventing some set of activities that make us feel good and forget about meaninglessness.

In short: To continue the species.

There is a lot of down-time, though, and as thinking beings humans have invented a lot of other reasons.

All life forms consume something from the outside to continue living, all life forms seek an environment that offers shelter in a storm and all life forms reproduce a next generation who continue the same activities.
