is that right? if not, please correct me in my form of writing it

Latitude is N/S
Longitude is E/W

Think of it this way...Lat is flat...they are stacked on each other. You cut along a line of latitude the earth would be flat on top of it...the equator is flat when it goes around the world....equator it latitude is 0ºN

Tropic of Capricorn is 23° 26′ 21″ S....flat AROUND the world.

I think you have it backward. Degrees lattitude are measured from 0 to 90 north and south. 90degrees north is the north pole and 90 degrees south is the soth pole. The equator is 0 degrees. Degrees longitude is measured from 0 to 180 east and west.

The first website below give an indepth explaination of each longitude and lattitude. The second website give an illustration and guide for understanding. These two sites should have all the information you need to understand these two terms. Good Luck and I hope this helps.

I remember it this way, all the longitude lines are equally long. So the other lines are the latitudes like the equator (0 degrees) and Tropic of Cancer or Tropic of Capricorn. Latitudes are also referred to as parallels. In history, one Presidential election had the slogan "54- 40 or fight" which was in reference to the USA's claim to land up to the 54-40 parallel. Needless to say, we compromised with Canada (actually England) and settled on the 49th parallel except for that little bit in Minnesota.

Lat is flat.

That's what I learned in elementary school to tell them apart.

I think you are right. I don't want to say for sure because I can't see what you are working on. You might not have to say "because..." If you say east or west or north or south, then people should know what you are talking about. So, if you say 15 degrees east, then people know you mean east of the prime meridian.
