As i would like to know, if the mccanns had left the children alone to go out on the tiles and get hammered in britain would they have been charged with neglect?
I find it hard to believe that they have people defending them to the hilt when clearly they are guilty of neglect. I dont know wether they have anything to do with her dissapearance or not il wait for evidence on that side of the issue. whether she has breasts or the fact she is slim has nothing to do with the feelings i have of disgust towards the pair of them for leaving those 3 children alone. i still believe in innocence till proven guilty and will decide when i see solid concrete facts, however a certain few pro's are really making themselves look silly by pushing the points as to why they are innocent yet they refuse to answer the child neglection issue either they dont answer or they get snotty & abusive but looking at the posts in here id say there is approx 90% of users saying they are guilty of neglect.

im blaming the mccanns for neglect your sentence was quite clear "Therefore let's concentrate on the BIG crime and don't have this attitude which blames the victim and not the perpetrator" your sentence said it all.

captain buggernuts,
I have always had my concerns about them leaving the children alone. I however am familiar with the concept of "Risk assessment". In order for me to evaluate the issue fully i have to know all the details- The children, the environment, the check-up, their room, their health, their maturity amongst other several things. These issues are always taken into consideration when evaluating suspected child abuse cases. I don't jump from a premise that starts with "The children were left alone" to the conclusion "Neglect" without some form of argument. I can't reach the conclusion without the details of this specific case; this would be jumping into conclusions.
You sound like a reasonable person, but many people are not, and i feel they are just jumping into the bandwagon and use the "neglect" issue to justify the spiteful undercurrent of schadenfreude.

What is the law in relation to leaving children alone? Professor Carolyn Hamilton offers her legal opinion and two Times writers give their own experiences as mothers
---------------------------------
The fact madeleine was abducted is not a proof of neglect
Let's try this circular argument
Madeleine was left alone therefore she was abducted.
Madeleine was adbducted therefore she was left alone
You can see the second statement is absurd
If I take a child into a lion's cage and the lion does not attack the child; that would be Neglect even though no harm came to the child.
---------------------
"they have not done anything wrong by leaving them on their own "
I have not said that. What I have said is leaving children alone does not equate to neglect without proper investigation. From a legal point of you "Neglect" is a charge not an opinion and every suspected case should be assessed individually.

I'm surprised at your amazement. You wanted to know if there were any lawyers here, not the "pro's" comments.
However, if you want my opinion, here it is. For the100th time.
The McCanns left their children safely asleep, in their own beds. They were not far away, they checked on them often. They thought their children were safe. They were wrong. Now, if you go along with the abduction theory, a third force came into the apartment and took Madeleine.
If he/she hadn't ,Madeleine would have been in her bed when her parents returned. Her parents did not allow for evil. We don't' expect evil in our own homes.
You can say that 90% of the users here say they are guilty of neglect. Well, they don't count. The social services, who did investigate, did not press charges. The police have not, to date, pressed charges. And most people who have passed their professional opinion, agree. The McCanns broke no law.
The McCanns thought, assumed, took it for granted, judged the situation. They were wrong.

I don't know if this is answering your question but to all those people saying the criminal is whoever snatched Maddie and not her parents, the whole reason parents DON'T leave their children unattended (including those a lot older than Maddie and her siblings) is for fear their children will come to some sort of harm and to all those who say we've all left our kids at some point - NO, WE HAVEN'T, not in a strange apartment, amongst strangers and amidst a strange landscape.

Dining 100 yards away from your kids in the same complex and checking them every half hour is hardly neglect. A stupid mistake yes.
Why is everyone so bothered about this, surely the person who took her is the real criminal in this tragic case? She could have been snatched while the parents were all in the apartment asleep anyway. People are committing far worse crimes all over the world every day, give them a break for gods sake.

so do i... but i also believe that anti or pro are entitled to their opinion..this doesn't mean they are right or wrong, or that everyone has to agree..

Right if you left yourcar door unlocked and someone stole your radio- which is the greater crime -leaving the door undone or the thief who took the radio?
So the McCann they left the door undone-someone took the child-which is the greater crime
Obviously it would have been better if either door was locked
They made the mistake that there was little crime of that sort and were lulled into a false sense of security
Therefore let's concentrate on the BIG crime and don't have this attitude which blames the victim and not the perpetrator

No get it right, its always a "mistake" or " bad judgement"!
Look what the consequence was! It was huge to that little girl if indeed there was an abduction that is.

I'm not a lawyer, but I play one on T.V.
I couldn't agree with you more.
However, I am inclined to believe that their daughter will never be found, and they will never suffer any consequences; at least in this life.
