Look at it this way: God is dropping the acorns so the little animals can start preparing for winter. Call them Drops of Love from God.

WE seem to have a lot in common today (I think it is today, it could be yesterday, it has all run into each other...I was up all night with a friggin headache from hell. I was here at 4AM, playing with those who had just awakend in England and the East Coast (lord, don't you people do anything but sit at the computer? I don't, but I thought I was the only one..silly me). And the Santa Ana winds are howling! WE have winds in excess of 80 mph in many areas here today (and they think Hurricanes are bad....hurricane are for sissies!) Instead of blinding rain, we have blinding sand in many areas (ever see a car that has driven in a sand storm...in one end of the storm with shiney black paint, out the other side with shiney metal! And forget about your windshield, it is now privacy glass!
IT is only a matter of seconds before we start smelling smoke from a forest fire raging out of control (seems that every time we have Santa Ana's, someone, somewhere decides it is time to trim some weeds, makes a spark, and 1000's of acres go up in smoke, and the rule here is that ALL ashes from these fires ends up on my driveway, patio, deck, and roof. This would not be so bad, except that as soon as I am covered in ash, the wind suddenly stops, leaving everything here white! And Christmas is still a long way off...I will have a white Holloween this year..hmmmmm, somehow, different.
PIne cones are the least of my worries...pine trees are what I am worried about...if you think that acorns make noise, you should hear a pine tree fall on a roof! Trust me, once that has happened, you will welcome acorns as child's play!
On the other hand, this may not be Santa Ana winds at play...the temperature is rising about 1 degree a minute..the next thing I suppose I will hear is that we have had a volcano erupt and a pyroplastic cloud is headed our way...I always try to see things on the bright side.
love and peace, Goldwing

Well Ticklebuster, I don't have that problem but these acorns keep falling and hitting my windshield and the top of my car. I can understand you can't take a walk. I don't think there is anything you can do about the noise on your roof. Did you try those foam inserts people use who are sensitive to sound? I think you can get them at the Chemist (or what we call the drug store). They block out sound pretty good. Sorry you didn't get any rest..

Ok! My turn.
As someone who has had the same experience, this is what I did.
There is a pattern to the sounds made by these little nuts & pinecones, & see if you can hear it. Having a good imagination helps too.
Once you make a game out of it, the sound becomes less of a problem.
The wind will soon die down & all the little noise makers will have been scattered across the ground, then you have another problem: Walking over them in such a way as to not bust your a**.
Luck

Gosh I am so glad you asked. I think you are my neighbor (giggling) The have a porch with a tin roof and those large acorns just slam it. I sit on the back porch and just watch the squirrels get scared by the noise.Instead of the squirrels stocking up for winter, they are running for their lives. Not much you can do, but use your stereo to drown it out. This is fall. Blue (the cat) says don't forget to wear a helmet outside, they hurt when they hit you. Giggling..Good luck...Go to motel for sleep if needed..Until fall is over if you have the money. I personally love it as it is my neighbors problem. I am evil.

Don't laugh Goldwing, but just this morning there is a terrible fire down by the PCH and Santa Monica, and the College. 60MPH winds and a lot of houses going up in flames. I'm sure it will all be on the news for several days, as it looks like it is out of control. Just some more Santa Ana wind driven fires you guys down there have to contend with.

First, I would find a football helmet to protect your head while doing the following:
Go outside and pick up all of the acorns and pine cones that you can find.
Start by using glitter on them to make them shine and a pretty color. (Oh, don't forget to leave about 1/2 of those acorns outside, the squirrels need food for this winter). Then start putting them together in wreaths, for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sell them for a nice profit.
If you have to put up with all of this, you might as well get paid for it. Right????

Go and find a job where you have to work nights. Hospital nurse, security guard, police there are plenty of them out there.
This will mean you will get paid a lot of good cash for your work and then when you get home you will feel so fatigued you will sleep like a baby whether acorns or bananas are landing on your roof or whatever.

This is a time when you should be spending time with family or friends. Get your mind off the little things like the wind and pine cones. Sure you can go for a walk just wear a good wind breaker and maybe a hat. I think you need to GET OUT OF THE HOUSE.!

Not allowed to cut trees? Hmmm. Move? Or go visit someone for the duration. It sounds like you have more problems then things falling. If that drives you bananas, you seem to already be grapes, at least.

Do you have headphones? I've resorted to "noise-canceling" headphones when they were doing construction by me. It works! I use the earplugs underneath them too. Maybe plug them into some good music, that will help.
Other than that, try to get involved in something that will absorb your attention. Maybe a creative project -- sewing or cooking or painting -- anything that can occupy your mind.
Not easy, I know. I hope the wind dies down soon for you.
