i have a 91 cicv hatchback without abs and when you turn the wheel slightly to the right while driving you can hear it start to tick somewhat lightly in the driver side front wheel area, and when you turn sharply (not sharply enough to make the powersteering belt sqeal if it had powersteering) it makes a sqealing sound similar to a squealing power steering belt but like i said it has no power steering. what could this be?

The ticking sound would lead me to believe that the problem is in the CV joints in the drive axle. Replace the axle, and inspect the steering components for damage or wear!
