Modern Egypt has no real relation to ancient egypt. It has been conquered and occupied and changed so much over the millenia that it's just not the same thing any more. Considering the large pantheon of gods they used to worship, it's now a muslim nation that speaks arabic. The language, the religion, the culture have all changed fundamentally. The only two modern nations that still have roots in their ancient past are China and India. Sure, there have been changes, particularly in government, but a lot of the old ways are still around. Besides, if you're just looking at which area has had a "civilization" in it the longest, I think it's China. Their ancient beginnings were slightly earlier than Egypt, just less grand in some ways, and more hidden from the west.

Why ask a question if you are making a statement?

If you mean the oldest continuing civilisation, then you are incorrect. Today's Egyptians had nothing to do with those of the past. Maybe some traits remain, but they are not the same people.

The oldest living civilisation today would be India, and you forget, China.

There seems to be some controversy about that. Here:

---- I guess it all depends upon how "civilization" is defined by the researchers.

The Genographic Project, using mitrocondrial DNA puts the beginning of homo sapien civilization in the middle of the African continent....and has traced the "Original Female Ancestor" to all of us.

So, I guess research will continue, won't it?

Well the Sumerians were older than the Egyptians. Mesopotamia (Iraq) was colonised from 6,500 years ago and they had their own civilisation.
