Okay, so I asked this same question a couple days ago and no one has responded with anything that has helped me.
Anyone else have any ideas?

Remark : nobody uses base three, but if you want to know it anyway :
6 = 20
7 = 21
8 = 22
9 = 100
10 = 101
11 = 102
12 = 110

6: 20 (2 threes, no units)
7: 21 (2 threes, one unit)
8: 22 (2 threes, two units)
9: 100 (1 nine, no threes, no units)
10: 101 (1 nine, no threes, one unit)
11: 102 (1 nine, no threes, two units)
12: 110 (1 nine, one three, no units)
