I am a divorced mother of one child. Thanks to the divorce and the many financial problems my husband caused, I had to file bankruptcy. I also have bad credit now thanks to some ER visits that are in the $20000 range I have been unable to pay for. My credit is ruined. I have a good enough salary for a nice place, but with any decent apartment complexes checking credit history, i'm being turned down left and right. I'm about to become homeless. I really need some advice. (I do not make enough to afford to buy a home or anything though)

Thanks guys. No, I do not have any family, i'm pretty much alone here. And I can't stay where I am, some big complex bought the land and we're being forced to move.

Look through your local classified ads. You might find some private person who doesn't want to go through the hassle of a credit check.

Sometimes if you offer to pay a larger deposit, that helps a landlord look past bad credit. If you can bring in paystubs or a glowing reference from a past landlord, that can help as well. Remember that landlords are people. Explain your situation. These things happen more than you might realize.

Try renting from a private person instead of a complex .
Look in the classifieds for the smaller properties .
( any possibility of staying where you are ?)

Is there a family member or friend who can cosign a lease with you? They could sing the lease as a guarantor who would promise to pay any monies owed on the Apartment if you fail to meet your obligations.
