Well... you can assume that the leader of the white and black pieces are their respective gods... let's take the Romans and the Egyptians.

These "gods" then move the pieces as they see fit in order to try and kill the enemy, while losing as few of their own followers as possible. Some do a fair trade, while others try to sneak attack to steal a free piece.

With the exception that there are no international relations in trying to avert war. the game is based simply on man's desire to wage war. =)

Chess is war. The common people, the pawns, are most certainly the casualties. The upper class are guarded, protected moreso than the commoners. The king must remain unscathed and only under rare situations does he even participate in offense, and he defends no one.

When a chess game is won, the majority of the time most of the pieces have been captured (killed). Sometimes a peace agreement is reached, a draw. By that time only the kings and a remnant of the pieces remain. Is the game to protect the children, the people, or just the king? How come the king does not lead the battle? The queen does far more work than the king.

Looked at in this way, I'm not sure that a chess game is a good imitation of a good nation, but it is a good imitation of a silly nation.

In chess, to be an expert one needs to have many moves ingrained so proficiently that it's automatic pilot and the versatility and flexibility of mind to entertain a particular best move out of many possible moves at a particular time creates a great chess player.

When you state, "life", it seems to universalize to all people. Unfortunately, even reasonable people do not choose perfect decisions.

If anything, playing chess has great rewards--to choose wisely, choose from many move possibilities and not just one (by impulse), reduces impulse, amongst other things.

If you apply chess to real life, you'd be a lot more effective than others in getting to your goals. A purposeful end is what we all want, however, some do not realize or mental health was not quite there therefore waste some time.

Here, read some more about the applicable value of chess. Down in link, as proponent Wendi Fischer believes. I also believe it's good for kids to acquire chess skills early in life. It keeps them from other foolish activities because chess is consuming if you love it.

The Concepts of strategy, forward planing, and wise choices when in a tight spot. These are relative to both chess and life.
One must have a strategy to everything he/she does, & then plan ahead but have a back up plan incase something is changed.

You need a strategy, vision to see beyond your next step, flexibility to be able to adjust to whatever challenges arise, and know that success is ultimately based on the decisions/choices you make. Everything you need to succeed is within you it's merely a matter of staying focussed and engaged in the process (game).

It doesn't. Chess is set up in nice little black and white squares whereas life is all shades of grey.

(btw - it doesn't matter how many moves you make as long as you mate without getting stale)

We all are pawns in life. We need to think carefully about each move we make. That is how we are the pawns. The knights and others are our prized possessions or our guardian. The King ids God.(If you believe in him)and the queen is Mary(if you believe in her)

All about mating with the least possible moves

The queen is the most versatile, and effective, ultimately? (And she's probably a great looking Virgo, my favorite, as well) :))
