Depends on local laws. If everyone threw a metal harddrive away on the same day, the compacter in the truck would probably blow a seal in the hydraulic ram/s! Pretty far-fetched, huh? LOL! Have you ever thought of removing the screws on the outside, and taking a look at the inside? Pretty interesting,(okay, maybe just to us geeks!). You'll see three or more extremely shiny 'platters' with short 'arms' on each side. These disks are highly polished, and the whole thing is made in a very, very, low dust laboratory type environment, to keep dust out. The arms move back, and forth across the disk's hundred's of times a SECOND! See what we learn?

It all depends on your local laws. Technically I am not supposed to throw away batteries or light bulbs. I am sure everyone does so until an easier method of disposing of these types of items is developed people will break the law.

That really depends on your local laws. If it is buried in a bag of trash, I really don't think the garbage police will find it!

Put it in one of those big black sacks with other trash, they aren't going to go through it to see what is in it, they just pick it up and throw it in the truck. Tear up all you can to protect privacy.....................x
