Well in Creative Writing we're working on a horror/scary story piece. My teacher said we could write the sequel to a movie. If I were to get the story copyrighted (so they can't claim it's their work) and send it to the production company/director of the movie do you think they would consider using the story? Let me know...cause it would be my dream to get my writing talent regonized!

The thing about sequels is you have to secure the rights to write your sequel first from teh original author and the Movie Company that produced the original film. In this manner you can in fact copyright your sequel, but if you don't do this and you try and sell your script you may find yourself being sued by the original author or that original company for copyright infringement. But, the good thing is most stories are easy to get these rights. Star Wars on the other hand is a tough one. Lucas loves to sue people who do not ask his permission. So, be careful and secure permission first.

A sequel can only be written by the original author. You can write a script that parodies another work, which happens a lot in hollywood, especially in the horror genre.

Be carefull with that and be sure to note in your script who created the origional characters. Also copyright is kinda expensive (if you can afford it more power to you) Next submit your script to the studio, and producers that backed the first film. They would be more likely to review it. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

Make two copies, send one to yourself via registered mail but never open it. Then if they try to steal your story you have dated proof you did it first.
