I've been predicting Don Mattingly too...The Yankees like to "keep it in the family"...

I'd go with Don Mattingly and make Joe Girardi the bench coach because mattingly is ready. I think Girardi isn't meant to manage a team like the Yankees. He is a manager for young ballplayers, not the veterans on the Yankees.

Of the two, Mattingly; however, since it's obvious "The Boss" is no longer holding that title I'm not certain it'll be either of them. How Torre was treated should be a fair indicator of how the Steinbrenner sons are going to make-or-break the Yankees; players came to the Yankees to play for Torre. He's proven his meddle with 12 straight postseason appearances and going 4-for-6 in World Series appearances. Short of Tony LaRussa (and a long-shot in Lou Pineilla) I don't see any manager handling the team up to Yankee standards.

mattingly is a glorified loser that played with the yankees while they continued to lose every year. If he is so great why does he not have a world series ring?

Nope, they are going to completely blindside everyone and hire Jim Fregosi.
