...although more of a sinister and fictional look behind the scenes of the making of the film, "Nosferatu", rather that a remake of the film, have you had a chance to check out the very intriguing and tongue-in-cheek dark humored 2000 film, "Shadow of the Vampire", starring Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich???

Nosferatu was based on Dracula and was subject to copyright lawsuits. It was in fact a version of the Dracula book.

But it is great - I haven't seen the Werner Herzog version.

In addition to Johnny's answer. When Nosferatu was first released, Bram Stoker's widow sued the makers for breach of copyright. This is why the film was unavailable for many, many years. Think it was to do with the expiry of Stoker's copyright (do correct me, but I think it last for 50 years after death) that meant it could be released.
Personally, I think it is a brilliant adaptation of the vampiric legend. Very eerie.
