To avoid racial conflicts, it seems. People can't stand to be called black. Whites are called whites, and blacks are called something that won't "offend" them and let them sue. Weird world.
Edit: He's Indian? Oh. Looks like they're now is the racism circle too. What, will people from Norway start being called some other creative name? Any special names for Asians perhaps?

If you look that close, 'non European American' and 'governor of Indian descent' are no less racist.
Why should 'non white' or 'non European American' or 'governor of Indian descent' make a difference at all?

Nonwhite? did he lose his pigment somewhere? I've never heard that term before. Why is there a label anyway??? I don't get it. That is very politcally incorrect! Let us continue to keep racism alive and well instead of seeing a "person" and not a "color."

Prolly cause in that area, rascism once was(maybe still is) a big deal, and many dont want to say the wrong thing....even tho saying that someone is black is not rascist, more of a fact or desctription, like saying im white. Maybe he just didnt want to upset anyone.

Nonwhite, no such animal( that statement doesn't have to be directed to black. Nonwhite could be any race other than white. Asian/African American/Spanish/ ignorance's is no reason to try to sugar coat any race.)

They should of just stated his nationality. Like the "first Afro-American" We still live in a racist society but it's more sugar coated. I can't stand it.

I don't see why they said that, a lot of black people I know are fine being being called black as long as people aren't being racist about it.
