My husband and I have been seperated for 4 years. If we decide to eventually divorce whose state law will take precedence? He lives (we lived together)in a community property state. I don't. Also they have vastly different alimony laws. (We have been married 30+ years)

Taken that you both meet the residency requirements of the states in which you reside, then it comes down to who files first as to which state takes precedence over the divorce. Chances are you may come out ahead in a non community property state.

Call a few different lawyers and ask them what and how to go about this. I live in IL. also after 31 years going through a divorce. Many lawyers offer 1/2 hour free consultation time. My divorce has been in the court system for over two years, if I can be of help email me if you have questions, granted all states will very with their laws.
