I have a 2300 square foot home in Knightdale, NC. It comes with a heat pump heating system and a propane fireplace. Should I use the heat pump or the propane fireplace or should I use a portable kerosene space heater. What is cheaper?

a real fireplace with real wood in it, is the most affordable

I agree with down below a real wood fireplace..it runs about a 100 bucks for truckload in fla not sure about everywhere else.
i would becareful with the [rpane those have been known to blow up.If you have kids etc stick to pump system its expensive ive had it before.
I also bake tons in winter and keep stove going it warms the kitchen..

fireplace with ceiling fans to distribute the heat throughout the house is the most efficient way provided the house is well insulated

put a vent free, 100% fireplace gas log in your fireplace. These babies are amazingly efficient...and move the question to another section

Wood / Coal burning "Heat-a-lator" looks like a black metal box ... really tosses out the heat ...two will roast your butt right out of the house ......
