I don't want to go over 1.5k( would be great if I could stay a couple hundred below that)

Is this computer good enough for what I want it for. Or is it under par. Or maybe I'm getting rippped off. If so do you have any recomendations.

yes I am looking to future proof my system. And you are right I might just stick with XP. IS it true that a new OS is comping out in 09?

But if anyone finds a different trusted brand laptop that gives the same or better specs for the same or lesser price please tell.

Assuming that you want to future proof by getting the best laptop you can currently get then yes. If your looking to save some cash and go cheaper there are many cheaper alternatives available.
[If you want things to generally run faster get xp over vista, vista is bloated and will run still slower even on that fast laptop]

Spec is good, if you value your games, ask for XP rather than Vista.
