I always tell him. It is as simple as that. I am the one who lifts him up, when he is feeling down. I make sure I support him in his personal and professional growth. I plan and organize surprise vacations. I take care of his aches and pains. I make sure he leads a healthy lifestyle by cooking healthy meals, keeping clean and stress free home. I also never forget to thank him for every little thing he does for me and for our family. He knows how much I love him, because he does a lot of the same things for me.

By listening to him, even if it is about the same problem for the thousand time ;-)
Cooking a surprise dinner
Giving him a massage
Smiling
By supporting his good ideas and plans, even if this means to be separated. By helping finding solutions when he is down.
By been honest
In short by been her best friend and always be myself with no masks or little games
Edit to add: yes absolutely, he recognizes it when I express my love.

If they don't recognize it, then just avoid telling them about it. This is because when people feel attracted to somebody, they become so sensitives about their signs. They can tell if you are in love with them or not. If they seem happy with it, then it's no better, if not, then so be it.

I will do chores I know she hates to do.
If she talks about us needing something in the house, sometimes I'll just show up with it. Of course, that backfires sometimes. There have been times when we BOTH bought it ha ha ha.
I'll do sex things in bed that I know she particularly likes (although that's good for BOTH of us ha ha)
I bought her a gun.
I ask her for advice.
I tolerate her right-wing and racist relatives when they visit and talk nonsense (and she KNOWS how hard that is for me, and thanks me for it all the time).
When talking about plans, I always say "we" and not "I."
Most importantly, I TELL her I love her all the time.
The greatest thing? I moved 2500 miles to be with her.

Being there for them. Doing things to make their life easier. Being affectionate. And of course telling them you love them doesn't hurt!
