I've had basic cable (aka 13 channels) for the past four years. I recently graduated from grad school and gotten a good job. Should I order cable? I'm thinking of getting digital cable with HBO, and a DV-R. Is this a good idea? Do you enjoy yours? Is it worth the 65 dollars per month? My contract will say that it will be $33 per month for three months and then $65 a month for two years....

deends on how much you like to watch shows on the premium channels. $33/month for only three months doesn't sound like a very good deal - i'd check around & see if anyone can beat it or extend the time of the promo. the whoe contract thing bothers me -i like being able to stop buying something when i want, not when they want.

i don't have cable at all now, although sometimes i miss certain shows. (not enough to go spend the extra money each month though - to me it's just not worth it). i had digital for a few yrs and cancelled it when i had my daughter. too much stuff on tv that i don't want to explain to her for a long long time, lol.

and as for analog going bye-bye - yes it will be, but there will be a converter box sold (and a rebate form to take most of that cost away) so it doesn't matter at all if you have cable or not as long as you have the converter.

Resisted the DV-R for a long time. Got it now and love it. Do the cable thing with DV-R. Watch TV when YOU want to. Mine is about the same cost as you indicate. Mine is through Cox Communications.

I basically watch the 13 channels, I hardly even go on the other ones. It depends if there is a channel you really like on cable.

I don't have cable, I used to though when I was little. I'm fine with ABC (yayyyy desperate housewives, ugly betty), Fox (FAMILY GUY!), Cartoonetwork (I dont watch it, but sometimes I do) and I'm fine. But if you want home phone, internet service, and a bunch of TV channels then sure.

Hi amanda,
Your so sweet i just had to reply, even though i don't have the time on this library computer to answer all of your question's in a honest mode of reply...
Amanda, i personally have found that renting free of charge a huge selection of cd's &/or dvd's &/or tape's are time consuming enough plus free...then when i want to view the newsest smash hit, i just rent at the local video/cd/dvd-store, I just don't like the lack of control i would experience from cable, compared to more control quality i have with my other choice of viewing pleasure...mainly i like to re-record-for research/study purpose's with re-recreating new & different & more suitable to today's time/trend's ever-changing evolving entertainment's etc.
I'm glad your connecting with me...let's get into some real scientific-food-chemistry-breakthrough's...do you believe in love at first bite? or perhap's love at first Email?

Yes, I have the whole package. It is worth it if you have no life and spend alot of time just watching TV and movies.

Depends if you watch a lot of TV or not.
I have it but don't really watch it.
Many people have it so I say...get it.
