My daughter went through this. Girls and boys will often try to act popular to gain the attention of others. My daughter Kate had this friend whom she'd known for years. STarted school together but as soon as they hit high school the friend changed and ditched KATE for the so called popular crowd. Who in my opinion were a bunch of LOSERS. Since when was making fun of others considered cool or popular. So my advice to Kate was. Find new friends. People that will like you for you , that will be your friend because of who you are and not because you're POPULAR. Kate now has 3 great friends. Her so called friend that chose the Popular crowd hangs with a posse of people whom called Kate recently saying how miserable she was cause those popular people are to judgemental. You can never turn into something you are not unless you allow that to happen. Just be yourself and be proud of that and the rest will all fall into place nicely.

Befriending physical pain is an interesting way to deal with it, I guess. Surrender. Seeing God's goodness in everything is okay too. You have turned Pain into a puppy dog, and that's what I thought the poem was about until I read this entire page. Still, I like the way the poem has a twist at the very end. You say it's an old poem. Are you still in pain? I hope not. Faith in the future, out of the now - JL

How do you "act popular"???
Here's what you do. Go to school and do the things that YOU like to do - and hang out with the people who YOU like. That will mean that you are being yourself - and that's the best thing to be.
Sounds like you DON'T want to do bad things or "act popular" - and it sounds like you don't want to hang out with the people who do. So - don't do that.
What DO you like to do? Dance? Play football? Draw? Do theatre? Figure it out and do it!
If your friend is leaving you out - then she is not your friend.
Do what you love to do - and you'll make friends.
Meanwhile - keep your head up. I know it seems important to be surrounded by people at school - but really - it's not. It's not important at all. Knowing who you are - and knowing your values and morals is much more important. It sounds like you are on the right track. Stay there!!

If you really want to keep them as friends, try talking to all of them about how you feel. But my advice would be to move on. These people sound like pretty lousy friends to me, and I'm sure you can find better friends that will like you.

Well, I say find better friends. If they were really true friends they would not act the way that they are.

Be done with them and find people who like you for you. You need to not give in to peer pressure to conform to the likings of others. They are not your friends if they are leaving you out.
Move on.
