Keep in mind, that the American Whig party, was permanently disbanded, for being willfully ignorant and were called “the know nothing party.” Where Republicans have become synonymous, with premature and wishful thinking. In other words, the Republicans cannot see past their own hopeless lies. Hence, cannot fix themselves.

If they don't get rid of the 'Hannity's America' part of their support base, they are doomed.
And if they continue regarding Fox News as 'Gospel', ditto.
There is no place in modern US politics for bigots dressed in suits.

Ummm, can we get our history straight? The Know Nothing Party was a separate group from the Whig Party. The Whig Party was torn apart not for being willfully ignorant, but because it couldn't come to a consensus on the slavery issue. The Republican Party grew from its ashes, as it was united in its opposition to slavery.

Since it's obvious from your question that you're not a Republican (as you seem to generalize what you know nothing about), who are you to say what should happen to it? Only those within the Party will determine its ultimate fate.

Right now, the Party is torn between its fiscal and social conservative branches and unfortunately, it is more beholden to the social conservatives. It hasn't found a happy balance yet.

Quote from an Irish music: we are going to depart with merely our memories and make a clean beginning up we would desire to flow with to WIN or LOSE and it' time we began triumphing God forbid if we're not from now on a 2 occasion political united states. Obama and the democrats want that, besides the incontrovertible fact that it is going to never take place. we are able to be lower back greater beneficial then ever in 2010 by way of fact the recent Republican occasion.

The problem is, of course, that the Democrat party is even less functional. Limping along with the Republicans is better than the complete collapse the Democrats would bring.

The republican party is doing great, they have great candidates with reputable political careers as candidates for the upcoming presidential election. The Democrats are the ones who are running the government right now and have at this time the lowest approval rating in history. I think maybe the dems should honestly consider scratching it and starting something new. They need to figure out what their party stands for then they might have a chance.
Rather than playing to the groups of people who vote they should rely on common sense and integrity. Their positions are ludicrous on almost every issue and it's confusing. With Democrats you really do not know what they stand for, maybe that is progressive but most people find it confusing.
Just keep thinking the Dems are doing good while the rest of population insists they are not.

I think that we would be a lot better off if we had many parties. Having only two, we have to choose which is the lesser of two evils, and often that negates any real choice. I think that the democrats are just as broken as the republicans. They too have their share of corruption and vindictiveness.
I think that we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard than the "lesser evil".

Fixed with a hammer and sickle (it's a joke. I'm not communist, before somebody takes me seriously).

There are many, many good republicans, but they aren't as outspoken as the more extreme ones as you describe.

The Republicans are stubborn in their extreme conservative beliefs, and refuse to catch up with the reality of our times.

As an example...the endless war in Iraq. There is no victory plan, it's cost over 600 billion, little progress has been made....and yet the Republicans stubbornly cheer for it because Bush says so.

The neocons remind me of blind sheep following their shepard into the Shadow of the Valley of Death.
