Because it contains high levels of Vitamin C, which boosts the immune system, orange juice can help prevent a cold. There's a lot of water in orange juice, which helps to keep you hydrated and healthy. Orange juice will not cure a cold, but it can improve the way you feel while suffering from one.

Orange juice has a lot of things your body needs when you're sick with a cold: it's a fluid, it is packed with natural vitamins (Vitamin C and calcium, primarily), and it contains natural sugars that can fuel your body (especially if you're appetite is suffering from being ill).

However, nothing can "cure" a cold--it's caused by a virus. Vitamins just boost your immune system so you're better at fighting the symptoms and helping to keep other illnesses at bay.

Actually, I think it's a myth.

It's full of Vitamin C, which boosts your immune system and energy level. But orange juice can also cause stuffy sinuses, which is BAD for colds. I avoid orange juice because of this, although it doesn't affect everyone that way.

I'd suggest hot herb tea, lots of room-temp water, and vitamin C pills, along with garlic capsules to prevent colds. Avoid cold things like ice cream, smoothies, milk, ice water, and any cold drinks. Go back to them when you're well again.

It doesn't. You are better off eating whole oranges and using pills for Vitamin C. Orange juice has too much sugar and sugar weakens the immune system. The fiber in a whole orange helps to slow down the metabolism of the sugar.

The high levels of vitamin C will help give your immune system a boost so it can better fight off infection. The orange juice itself doesn't do anything to fight the cold, it just helps your body fight it better.
