I'm 15 and my grandma has cervical cancer.
She has been enquiring into me having the injections to prevent it however she said its for me to have before im "sexually active". however i already am and it's protected. There is no way i can tell my family, so if i have the injection will it make me ill? Or can you still have it even though youve had sex? I really don't know what to do. please help!

You can have the injection at anytime. The ages are from 8 to 24. No matter that you have had sex before. Please talk to g'ma and tell her you want this. It can save your life, as g'ma has cervical cancer already, your odd are very high to get it yourself. Don't worry about telling grandma about your sex life. Just get an appointment for an exam and tell the health care staff you do not want anyone to know. They usually won't tell any way, do to HEPPA laws. But, this is for you and VERY important. Good for your grandma, she loves you very much.

If I were in the age range to get the vaccine... I wouldn't get it!

1. It prevents FOUR out of hundreds of forms of cervical cancer.
2. It states in the commercial that it MAY NOT prevent the four forms it says it prevents!
3. We DO NOT know the LONG TERM affects of this vaccine! For all we know, it could be even WORSE than cervical cancer!!

I would never recommend this vaccine. It is TOO NEW, there aren't ANY long term studies done to this vaccine.

YES, they need to know if you are sexually active. This is your DOCTOR, so you should ALWAYS be honest with them.

The vaccine isn't something to be frightened of. that's a shot on your arm. want something to be frightened of? How approximately cervical maximum cancers? I had it while i became 22. First they tried to laser it off. i became conscious for that technique. It became excruciatingly painful. that did no longer artwork so as they had to diminish a cone-formed section out of my cervix decrease than commonplace anesthesia. I wakened from that surgical treatment screaming and crying for my mommy through fact i became in plenty soreness and terrified. Get the shot. that's particularly no longer a great deal. The healthcare expert might even provide you a lollipop after.

no it wont make you sick its the HPV shot..and its safe for women ages 8-25.....you dont need to be sexually active to get this vaccination...and seeings how grandma already has cervical cancer chances are higher that you may develop it later on in life......talk to your parents about it..it is an expensive series of shots but well worth it.....you will need to get 3 shots over the course of 1 year i believe....and they are about $115 a shot if you dont have insurance or your insurance plan doesnt cover it.....good luck

yes to have it and no to making you ill. it's a vaccine for the hpv virus. even if you're sexually active, you might not have contracted the virus so it's a good idea to do it, especially if all the sex you've had has been proteted. it won't make you sick just like getting HBV or tetanus vaccines won't make you sick even if you've been exposed. we give it to patients i'm sure have been active and none of them get sick. it just doesn't do much good to stop the parts of the hpv virus they've been exposed to.
