Both cars have the same number of pistons (4). The same size engine 1.4 and the same fuel system. The only difference is that the 8 valve engine has two valves (One inlet one exhaust) the 16 vale engine has four valves per cylinder (Two inlet, 2 Outlet.) This allows the car to developer more powers.

an 8 valve engine typically only has one camshaft operating two valves per cylinder one inlet one exhaust, in a 16 valve engine each cylinder has four valves two inlet, two exhaust these are operated by two camshafts one for the inlet valves and one for the exhaust valves to understand this more clearly check out the following link:

8 valves, 16 valves, the 16 valve gives better performence, normallly 16 valve would be a twin cam etc,you can get 32 valve quad cam, better perfomence alltogether, hope this helps

1400c.c engine with 8 valves has 2 valves per cylinder e.g one inlet valve and one exhaust per cylinder. 16 vale engine of this size has 4 valves per cylinder e.g 2 inlet and 2 exhaust e.g inlet valves allow more fuel to combust and exhaust valves let more gas escape hope this explains your query without patronising you.

horsepower output / accelleration..
remember suck squeeze bang blow... the better your engine breathes, the more efficient it will be...
itll also be faster, and more responsive and cost more on teh insurance...
16 valves... always better than 8...
