Gmail works...but also, if you're sending from HOME, you could be running into limits imposed by your dialup ISP handler! Ours finally ticked me off. We tried to send a large file of photos via email. Our ISP griped, refused, said it was beyond the limit for one transmission. We switched to dsl (covad, in our case). No problems since.
