Hello everyone! Hi, Uhmm i need everybody's opinion or insight about this topic :FREE WILL...

Do we have FREE WILL or NOT in case of theological issue...

how about Do we have FREE WILL or not in case of PHILOSOPHICAL ISSUE...not involving THE BIBLE.

*free will party claims that MAN is RESPONSIBLE for HIS/ HER actions.
BUT FREE WILL is RULED by HEREDITY and ENVIRONMENT (for example: a thief would steal, because that is his environment/or his training---meaning WILL is not involve to the choice he made, because heredity and environment makes him a thief....)

pls...help me..because i just presented 2 weeks ago about free will, and that is when we can add some information, like bible passages and other pertaining to free will...NOW my professor wants me to be more PHILOSOPHICAL about the topic...SO i need you guys opinion about it, because right now, i am like torn between two side...and that is i have FREE WILL, and I DONT HAVE FREE WILL...i need more clearance....THANKS AND GOD BLESS!!!

Interesting question! Will as a whole is free, for there is no other will beside it could limit it; but each part of the universal will - each species, each organisms, each organ - is irrevocably dtermine by the whole.

Because will itself indicates want, and its grasp is always greater than its reach. For every wish that is satisfied there remain ten that are denied. Desire is infinite, fulfillment is limited - it is like the alms thrown to a beggar, that keeps him alive today in order that his misery may be prolonged tomorrow,,,,, As long as our consciousness is filled by our will, so long as we are given up to the throng of desires with their constant hopes and fears, so long as we are subject to willing, we can never have lasting happiness or peace. And fulfillment never satisfies; nothing is so fatal to an ideal as its realization. The satisfied passion iftener leads to unhappiness than to happiness. For it demands often conflict so much with the personal welfare of him who is concerned that they undermine it. Each individual bears within himself a disruptive contradiction; the realized desire develops a new desire, and the will must live on itself, for there exists nothing besides it, and it is a hungry will.

Hope this helps you. Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

I can tell you, but you won't like it.

FREE WILL is a synthetic term invented to resolve a paradox created by unfounded religious assertions. Namely:
1.) God is the all knowing, all powerful creator of the universe.
2.) God is Just, and will fairly judge men for their actions.

When these beliefs are laid over the concept that the universe is mechanistic we get the Believer's Paradox.

"How can God justly judge us for our evil acts of will, when those acts of will were absolutely guaranteed to happen in the moment of His all knowing creation?"

The resolution of this paradox is the notion that God has somehow FREED our WILL from the universes strict causality. (And therefore may justly judge.)

But this paradox does not vanish when you move into the secular world, because we do not feel we can justly judge someone who has no choice in their actions. We sympathize with the man who steals because he is starving.

But what about the thief that isn't starving? Slick Lawyers argue heredity and environment make him a thief, hence he has no choice or free will, hence we may not justly punish the thief for his crime.

So here the deal. In a causual universe,

Will IS the combination heredity and environment,

and the idea that it can be FREED from cause and effect is ABSURD.

Which is to say: 'FREE' WILL IS AN ABSURD CONCEPT.

Human Justice is simply a matter of what kind of WILL we will tolerate. While it certainly helps to correct environments that create criminals; Justice is about creating an environment to punish misbehavior until it stops.

And if we judge too harshly, not to worry. We just hire a slick lawyer to say that we to are simply the products of our environment.

It sounds to me as if your professor is interested in taking away your free will to choose the kind of answer you feel most comfortable in giving.

I am not a Bible person, but if that was the kind of answer you chose to give, I think he could have a little more respect for your point of view. But this is just my opinion on the matter.

On the other hand, for the sake of getting his approval and a good grade you may have to resort to doing some online resierch on the matter. There are lots of sites that discuss this matter of free will. Pick out some things he might like and move on.

Free will is just free will theres nothing complicated to it and doesn't have to be philosophycal or religious, it's how you precieve free will thats the case. If you begin to link nurture and nature to free will then where does it end? it's endless... Whatever you do or don't is directly or indirectly affected by nature and nurture, so theres no escaping it. Hope this helps..
Good luck...

If my boyfriend handed me a cigarette i might say no, yet maximum adolescents might do issues for their friends or boyfriends just to no longer be positioned down as being a wimp or being prude

i think what ever theory that you will believe it is up to you...because you have free will...t o choose what you believe in...you have free will to do what you want to do.yes there are things that stop us to do the things and decide for the things...but that is your will to listen to them...see it is still you who decide for yourself...so you have free will whatever or whichever you will want to believe in...it is simple as that..that is the greatest gift we can have...free will...it is up to you how you will use it.
