It depends of what kind of books you like to read of course, but I can definitely recommend anything by Tess Gerritsen (Crime), PJ Tracey (also crime).

If you like fantasy, you shoul pick up any of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. There's about 25 or so book in the series, but you don't need to read them in order.

Douglas Adams' The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is also an excellent book, as are the 5 books that followed it.

Jean M. Auel's series of the Earth's Children, starting with the Clan of the Cave Bear is very good, but perhaps a bit "chunky" :)

Also check out Conn Igulden's Emperor series about Julius Caesar - it's a series of fictional books about the life of the emperor, and they are a very good read :)

Best of luck with your book search.

Oh, darn the luck! I have great suggestions for a woman of 31 or 29, but nothing for 30.

Since Harry Potter is more of a 2-week read maximum, and you want a month's worth, I would suggest Tolstoy's "War and Peace".

But you're 30, so this wouldn't apply to you.

if you like historical fiction:
Katherine: Anya Seyton
Pride and Predjudice: Jane Austen (my all time favorite book, it is very easy to read despite being written so long ago, don't let that turn you off)
Second Glance: Jodi Picoult
Shadowbrook: Beverly Swerling
The other Bolyen Girl: Phillipa Gregory
Nefertiti: Michelle Moran
the Blind Assassin: Margaret Atwood
City of Dreams: Beverly Swerling
Emma: Jane Austen
The weight of Water: Anita Shreve
Cold Mountain
Charlotte Gray: Sebastian Faulks

I've tried to include books that are not too long. Anna Karenena is a very long book

The Secret Life of Bees by Susan Monk Kidd is great from anybody ages 15-60. It's a beautiful novel and one of the best I've ever read. If you're in the mood for something brilliantly hilarious, go for Running With Scissors by Augustin Burroughs. I read this when I was 15 and it was quite innapropriate and very adult, but one of the funniest things I've ever read. My mom read it after me and was laughing her head off. I'd say go for it, you'd love it.

And just in case my age is making you wary of my book choices, don't worry, I'm not reccommending you any teen dramas or anything. I'm a seasoned reader of Shakespeare, Tolkein, Hemmingway, Orwell, etc. Not Gossip Girl lol.

Anna Karenina - Leo Tolstoy
I'm reading it at the moment but it was recommended to me by a thirty year old woman
