Well, the two - footed arial tackle for Dirk Kuyt merited a red, but the ref did not seem to think so. The ref was spot on with the Gerrard penalty decision (though I thought initial contact was outside the area), but Everton had legitimate penalty shouts turned down. Everton deserved three points, not even one.
Liverpool can count themselves very very lucky. If they play like this, Arsenal will eat them for lunch next Sunday!
The game just goes to show how influential the big four are when it comes to decisions. Come to think of it, the ref pulled out a yellow when Hibbert fouled Gerrard, then Gerrard went up and had a word with the ref, then the yellow went in and out came the red!

am very nervous about this one. The last international break was not kind to us and, with Gerrard mired in one of the worst slumps of his career, it’s hard to see how we’ll do against an Everton team who have run hot and cold this season.
If nothing else, the Toffees will be well motivated after Rafa labeled their club one of the smaller ones in the Premier League. If it is something we can count on our Mersey neighbours for, it’s an inferiority complex.
But let’s face it, both teams are looking to get their seasons back on track. Everton have lost three of the last four, while Liverpool have flattered to deceive so far this campaign.
It’ll be a tight, tense affair with plenty of “mongrel” in the midfield - a perfect game for Mascherano, no matter what I said about him a week or so ago.
Hopefully, we can nick an early goal and invite them onto us - leaving them susceptible to the fast break and a second goal. Our away is pretty good so far, but given how we’ve been playing recently, nothing can be taken for granted.
I think I’d go for the following team:
Reina
Finnan
Carra
Hyypia
Arbeloa
Pennant
Gerrard
Mascherano
Riise (gives us a little more defensively, but expect to see Babel/Benayoun come on in the later stages)
Torres
Kuyt/Crouch (depending on Dirk’s hamstring)
It won’t be pretty, but if we can get away with the three points I’ll be over the moon.

Simple. Everton was more desparate to win than Liverpool and paid the price (never mind physical contact bla bla). Liverpool won not because they were the better team but just plain lucky with how the ref calls it.

That was a great match! ALl the excitment, and Phil Neville had no choice but to get sent off. Its a shame Howard missed it. The tackles were a bit rough.

what the hell divvy - were you in a coma yesterday - Rafa didn't go with your team but you will be pleased to know that we did nick the points.
As for Kuyts tackle you could see he was trying to pull out as soon as he took off, his feet were tucked up behind him, still he was lucky to stay on the pitch....
