Yes. A parent is responsible for their children and there are scary things out there that children need to be protected from. I have seen questions on this very venue by young girls asking if they should go out with someone they had been chatting online with. You would think they wouldn't even have to ask, but obviously they do. Children and teens sometimes need protection from themselves. They sometimes don't use common sense in their decisions and it is a parent's responsibility to protect them from making bad choices.

Well, first of all - I am not a parent.
But IF I WAS .... then, YES! I ABSOLUTELY WOULD!

If I had kids, their computer time would be restricted. I would be telling them to pick up a ball and go outside to play for a while! We have too much "technology overload" today.

If parents are being responsible, then they are keeping a close eye on what their kids are doing on the net. I wouldn't leave a kid of mine alone in the house with a stranger.
These days, parents can't be too careful.
It sometimes makes me really glad that I am NOT a parent!
It's an awesome responsibility, and I commend the ones who are doing a good job of protecting their children and raising them with good morals and responsible behaviors!

A fried of mine suddenly received all kinds of expensive stuff at his home. His son... apparently bought those on the internet without having the money. In the end... Dad had to pay for it.

If I had a reason to check the history, I would.

well it depends on how old ur children are.
If ur afraid that ur children are chatting to pedo's then have an open door policy on your study or keep ur computer in an open space and talk frequently with your children about it.
if its to know what they're up to, then you need to build trust with your children and its definitely the wrong way to go about it.
if they're teenagers, are you really prepared for what you might find? And if u do find something that (to you) is disturbing how are you going to confront them?? They'll know you've been snooping around.

SO....if it's fear of pedophilia, then an 'open door' policy should be used. but if its just to know what your kids are up to, then talk with them otherwise you may be causing more damage then good.

Absolutely! My kids know that God gave me the responsibility to parent them and part of that is holding them accountable for their choices. It is a way for me to see what they are interested in and not just what they tell me they are interested in. Checking the history and cookies, in addition to talking with them is just a part of helping them through whatever struggles they are going through.
