Wow!
You sure got those big 10 fans upset.
They took the bait and showed what idiots they are. They can't debate the facts so they turn to personal attacks or instantly attack the SEC. You said nothing about the SEC in your original details. I'd say they suffer from little dog syndrome. I'd say the answer to your question is a combination of the 2. They are too close to the trees to see the forest. Their hearts scream big 10 clouds their brain too much to discern the truth. No matter how lousy the conference is they will never see past their own teams.

Another Big 10 hater...no big surprise there.
With the exception of Ohio State, the rest of the Big 10 is soft. Wisconsin slagged along with Penn State. Michigan had a horrific start, but they are coming back into the mix. What about the surprises? Indiana had a great start and currently sits in the top half of the standings (I can't even remember the last time IU was any higher than seventh in the conference). Illinois has given teams a tough fight...just ask Wisconsin who got smacked around by the Illini a couple weeks ago.
Does that make the Big 10 a great conference? No...but it doesn't make them the WAC either. Do you want to know what conference is having a stellar year? The Big East. Rutgers, West Virginia, South Florida, Cincinnati, and Louisville have all been really good. Hell, Big East teams rarely make the top 5 let alone number 2.
Yeah, the Big 10 conference is a little on the light side this year, but there have been times in the past when even the all mighty SEC, the Big 12, or the Pac-10 was weak. For years, USC was the only powerhouse in the Pac-10. Florida and Tennessee were the only two winners in the SEC. Conferences have their ups and downs. However, during the down years, I don't think it's fair for the best team in the weak conference to be punished when they are clearly dominating. OSU's defense has yet to give up a touchdown in Ohio Stadium, yet fans outside of "Big 10 Country" can't seem to find the credit that the Buckeyes deserve. How many times did Nebraska or Oklahoma dominate the Big 12 in the '80s and '90s without much of a challenge, yet when they played Florida State, Miami, USC or Florida (the apparent "mecca" of college football according to some SEC fans) they treated the opposition like Ike treated Tina.
Bottom line: we won't know how good the best team in the Big 10 really is until their bowl game. And right now, it looks more and more like the best will be OSU playing in another national championship game, assuming they continue their strong performance against their remaining schedule. But I ask this...even if the top Big 10 teams win their bowl games convincingly, will the haters (specifically the ones in the southeastern part of the country) really give the conference any credit? I doubt it. They are so full of themselves and too busy enjoying the smell of their own gas to notice that there are other teams that could beat them.
How are you enjoying your national title defense Gator fans? Pretty tough to repeat with two losses on your record.

I beg your pardon, sir!
I don't think that ANY Big Ten fans out there are jumping up and down, screaming how wonderful the conference is this year. We all know what happened to teams who were once ranked: Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Penn State, Purdue...the list goes on. Yes, they all fell off the map and yes, they all probably should have easily won the games that cost them their rankings.
Stumbling and falling does not make the conference weak overall. Florida lost. LSU lost. USC lost. Those were all games they SHOULD have won. I don't see you tap dancing on the foreheads of the SEC and Pac 10 fans, saying that the conference is weak because of that. (As well you shouldn't because it's a poor argument....not unlike the one you just wasted 5 points to post).
I'm not saying one way or the other that the Big Ten is tough. Some teams are doing well and others are not...just like any other conference they have strengths and weaknesses.
Good day.

I agree with the response above, and I also know that no matter what I say, you will not even entertain other opinions because you are so high and mighty with your conference. I agree that overall the SEC is better than the big ten. that's an old story. But don't hate the big ten. Its a different kind of game. Big ten players make better tackles, and are better at playing old school, cold weather football. SEC football is fast, with lots of good pass rushing, and ok running. so, just be cool. I will take Ohio State any day over any team in the SEC. why? because I love my team and i have faith. have a fun season losing the games you should win. Vanderbilt? come on? that was embarassing for your so called power house team

well it seems to me that most of the divisions are pretty even in wins and losses, from top to bottom, it would be nice for the proffesional commentators to see all divisions and be fair and nonbiased about the comments they make, this morning watching espn to see the college scores, i was amazed about how the world revolves around the sec, and most of the sec teams have a loss or two, so does the big ten, big 12, pac 10,acc and on and on, calling any fan an idiot just shows how high your iq is, and so you know i live in ohio so i am a buckeye fan, i just get tired of hearing how bad big 10 football is when the other divisions are having the same year as everybody else, your question shows how ignorant you are, enjoy the game and quit your bitchin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I take exception to your assuming "ALL" Big Ten fans are the same. I live in a Big Ten city and I graduated from a Big 10 school. I think the SEC is the toughest football conference.
So there. That shoots down your theory about Big 10 fans.
GO BUCKS. The reason the Buckeyes play in state opponents like Bowling Green and Akron is because the State Legislature forced their hand about 10 years ago.

i'm a Big Ten fan, I don't ever defend my conference, I could care less if any of them win or lose...as an Ohio State fan, I want Ohio State to win the conference every year, so if that means every one else has to lose
you must be an SEC fan, and I notice that your fans like their team first, and a very very close second their conference, the Big Ten fans have never been like that
Big Ten fans hate other Big Ten teams, not other conference, they could care less about the SEC, Pac 10, etc, unless they are playing them

I think you have a point there. I am a Michigan fan, and I do think that THIS YEAR the Big 10 is relatively weak. In some other years it was and will be the best conference. It goes up and down.

It seems like you are a little too obsessed with making fun of the Big 10. You must have a team in the WAC and you know your conference sucks and you want to make fun of a BCS conference. I hope you feel better about yourself and your conference now.

Who the hell are you and who the hell are you talking about? We have our favorite teams in the conference and we are fans. As a Michigan fan, the only other team we pull for is OSU just so they will be unbeaten when we have a chance to knock them off. Of course its nice when the teams you beat also do well. I have no clue who you are talking about. Why don't you deal with them directly instead of being so vitriolic to all the rest of us?
Dear Gherd,
