What is coating used on drumsticks?i've been told its a special kind of varnish but not really sure.
Any reply's or advice would be greatful.

"Varnish" isn't really a technical term, at least from what I hear... it just means to coat something with a clear-drying material which will seal it. What matters is what the varnish is made from, and what properties a particular type and brand has.

(Lacquer, I believe, is more of a technical term when used correctly... it's not water-based, for one thing. . . some people use the word lacquer kind of loosely too.)

I'm assuming that what you'd want on drum sticks is some kind of finish (whether acrylic or solvent-based) that's very strong to resist scratching and which is highly waterproof... those characteristics will vary by brand, and possibly by type too. Perhaps a "marine" type sealer intended for use outdoors would be a good one?

they probalby are coated with varnish and then top coated with poly-urethane,as this well protect the varnish
