In fairness to Feegie, he has always stated that he sees a 2nd win as a sign of a great football club.
I think that it is harsh to say it was lucky after Keane, knowing he was missing the final, dragged the whole squad through that semi against Juve. The reason they won the final was because Bayern were waiting for the whistle and not playing to the whistle.
PS One in CL format and one in straight knock out format, even UEFA states that Man U are two time winners.
They won't win it this year, but I can see them getting to the semis again.

Duh! Statistics speak for themselves:
* 17 trophies in 21 years at the business end of football
* 9 Premierships when his lub hadn't won the league for 26 years, vanquishing teams such as Keegan's vibrant Newcastle, Wenger's 'Invincible' Arsenal and Mourinho's 'moneybags' Chelsea.
* He has had to 'reconstruct' various 'generations' of Manchester United players to keep the club winning trophies. No easy feat. At times he has outlayed vast sums of money, but so have many other European clubs. Sir Alex has also brought through a number of locallly-produced players, and coached world class ability and impressive consistency out of them.
* His clubs have provided the backbones of national teams for nigh-on three decades.
* Okay, so he's only won the European Cup once, but that was no fluke. Granted, they were lucky to win the final, but they had to get past Barcelona, Internazionale and Juventus to even be there...and when they were a goal doal and nothing was working for them, they sure as hell didn't give up the ghost.
* Clough did win the European Cup twice with a provincial club (itself a fine achievement) but who did they play to get there? They had maybe one demanding tie in the two seasons they won it (against Liverpool in 1978) and that was the first one they played.
* He won the Treble. Who else has done that in a major European league?
* He took a provincial Scottish team (Aberdeen) wrestled the domestic dominance away from the Glasgow clubs, and got them punching above their weight in Europe (they beat Real Madrid to win the Cup-Winners Cup).
* YES, they can win the Champions League this year. They are defending a lot better now (they are hardly conceding a goal at the moment) and have attacking threats from sources all around the team.
* He doesn't tolerate any indiscipline, and is not afraid to make difficult and unpopular decisions.
* He is a positive role model to pensioners up and down this country, who may start thinking that they are over the hill.
So if Sir Alex thinks himself a good manager, it is with sound reason!

I think you forget all the other trophies he has won whilst in charge of his current club , and previously at Aberdeen where he managed to overcome the old firm stranglehold by winning the league , cup and also a European trophy.
I'm not sure how good he thinks he is but the results show he is one of the best British managers ever
There are many other British managers over the years who have been great for their clubs and football in general , Clough at Forest and Derby , Busby , Shankly , Paisley and no doubt other readers will add a few more .
I just wonder why it is no necessary to have so many foreign coaches in British Football . Yes some are excellent and have been successful , but other 2nd raters just see a couple of years in the Premiership providing them with a pension !!

Look at his record then try and find managers with a higher trophy haul.
His best years came when he was with Aberdeen. Before the million pound transfers. Managers will only be great in the future because of the money they'll get to build the best teams. Fergie at Aberdeen won through his coaching skills.

I am about as far removed of being a fan of the Salford Scum as it is possible to get, well apart from the odd rabid blue nose.
But, personally, I think you are just about as daft as it is possible to get, believe it of not I am trying very hard to be polite.
Alex Ferguson has won that many tripohies that he is now arguably the most successful manager in the history of the game, anywhere in the world.
He has won numerous trophies in what is arguably the most competitive league in the world.
You base your assumptions on 'only' winning one Champions League, there are many, many managers and coaches at international level that would envy that one, many of them would be in line for any top job in Europe, be that Ferguson's club, Liverpool, Arsenal, Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern Munchen, or England, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, and many others.
Ask most real football fans in the UK, the Champions League would not be automatic choice as the trophy they would most like to win, would Arsenal swap Wenger with Benitez, no, they certainly would not, yet Wenger has not won the Euro p*ss pot.
As for Brian Clough, he won the old European Cup, at a time when the game was completely different.
No contest, Ferguson has dominated English football, and there is not one club on the continent that would not take him on tomorrow should he choose to leave.
I would suggest that before you throw anymore rubbish like this you go to school, learn to write English in proper sentences, with correct punctuation, and learn to use CAPITAL letters, and develope at least the brain cells of the average laboratory rat.
That way you could at least make yourself look less of an idiot by writing you question in English.

Not a Man Utd or Aberdeen fan,so i can say with complete impartiality that when you look at the amount of trophies he has won with those 2 clubs,he is one of the best managers of the modern era.

Kudos to Mike B - even with that intro!
If I can be frank, some people seriously need to get their head out of their arses when it comes to viewing Sir Alex. The man has had almost constant success for over 20 years, and done so in a way that would've made Sir Matt proud. As for the "fluke" champions league win, please - if your envious stomach could even bare to start thinking about it - look back at that treble season, look at the football played and tell me we didn't deserve any of those trophies.
"Humourless and rude"? If you'd met him, or knew anyone that knew him, you would know that that is simply not true - he's the exact opposite.
He knows he's good at his job, but he's a sufficiently modest man as well, he knows United should have won the Champions League more times, he's said those very words himself many a time.

good call m8. everytime they get knocked out of a competition its either the refs or the linesmen.the treble season, man u v liverpool in the fa cup, j redknapp never touched beckham, he went down like a ton of bricks, they scored from the free kick and went on to win but no man u fan remember that dive, MBS again.
as for when clough won the e cup those times were different, it was harder in those days, every round was 2 games and if you lost them you were out, not like now when you have the group stages. until man u win more than liverpool they will always be in second place
