does the software that was installed when i bought the laptop get erased.

Yes, only whats supplied at the time of purchase will be there.

It depend on how you partition your disk drive. Most likely, all files will be erase, unless you back them up. If you have a sound card and a video card (hardware) installed , their driver software will be erase too. Make sure you have a copy to reinstall them or you will end operating an Xp w/o a sound. Or you can search the internet to download a sound drive compatible w/ your sound card. (take necessary precaution in downloading a drive).

Most importantly, get a copy of genuine Xp so you can make the right update. Installing a pirate Xp is like peeping who's always in your back, cause you never know what will happen next.

It depends. If you have a commercial copy of XP than yes the trialware that came with your pc will be lost. However, if your reinstalling from a recovery disk that came with your computer, it should be restored to exactly the way it was when you took it out of the box and booted for the first time.

the software wil be removed, but some files and accounts will remain, if it's reinstallation.. if u format, nothing will remain, though some virus could stay there...
