I work part time in administration and I asked my boss if I could go barefoot and he told me if it made me more comfortable and helped me work harder then go for it. So I go right ahead and kick off my shoes and slide off my socks under my desk and walk around the office in bare feet.

I've been barefoot at my job in a history theme park; we dress up in period clothing and in Prehistory, bare feet fit quite well (although we have moccasin-like footwear, too). Before that I've also worked at an internet help desk barefoot, and I've done a couple very brief temp jobs in winter barefoot, like packing rubber products in a factory (the theme park is closed in winter so sometimes I get a temp job if I can't carry over until spring).

Maybe if you were a tester for carpet softness or grape stomping for wine. Or maybe those foot massage machines or a foot model. I personally think a lot of jobs would be much more pleasant and more productive if employees were allowed to go shoeless. Think of the comfort. What's the first thing you usually do when you get off work? Kick your shoes off!

Barefoot in the kitchen is dangerous to you and your patrons.
Don't do it.
