You want to get a watermelon with the bottom side yellow you may have to look at lots of them but get the one that has the Yellowest (new word) it will be the best and sweetest
big or small doesn't really matter
also try to buy from a person or farmer's market rather than a grocery store

Look for the watermelon which is fully developed by that i mean u'd find a deep dent on the tip of the melon thats how u know if the melon is right for consumption. But apart from that it depends on the melons basic genetic composition. It's like u shud get lucky to find the right one at times. But u have to keep ur eyes open for it's skin texture to be good the melons fullness shud be good too not light in weight but heavy when u hold it. and the flower at the base of the melon shud have dried and dropped off .

Oh you big tease. If I really like the garden they're growing in, it doesn't matter what size the watermelons are. Nor the tomatoes, or the squash, or the tulips, cantelopes, blueberries, rhubarb... It's all good when the garden is fertile and happy! If I have a choice I guess I prefer those Findhorn gardens with the jumbo vegetables. I could live in a garden like that and never want to leave.

Watermelons are like mother in laws, till you bring it home there is no way to know, do not get fouled by the size or weight.

Hmmm...I don't know if size has anything to do with being better or not...what you want is ripeness, sweetness, juicyness...if that all happens to come in a bigger package, so much the better!

mid size. I odn't want it to be too big. It gets heavy. The littles are a tad bit too small
