People still marry according to their castes, creed, religion and so on....
The country still does not speak about changing it through radio or TV and the masses continue to continue this tradition...

Why is our country not changing? We call ourselves multi faceted, multi religious and very modern but yet at the same time we are not doing much to change the mind sets of the people.
No matter what, though our country lives in harmony there are many people affected through the caste system. People are treated badly and ruthlessly by other people from their so called higher class/ higher levels of caste!
When will this change? Are the younger individuals of our country willing to think and accept that there are some radical changes that must take place for our country to go forward or will there be chaos and confusion and will this continue in future generations?

We cannot live in secret and hide these things from the rest of the world. We have something big to overcome, are we going to try or are we going to sit back and continue and worry about our own lives instead of the prosperity of the country and the masses?

Our country is driven by GREED. In a perfect world there would be no greed or envy. Until we as a country change greed into sharing & caring nothing will change. This holds true with every nation in the world. Read the history over the years and you will see that Greed and envy caused ALL the problems.
One person can make a difference by just caring and sharing with one other person in your community and then that person will help someone and so on and so on. The problem is that no one ever continues the process over their life-time. Green and Envy cloud even the best of intensions.

I agree, and there was an interesting article in National Geographic a couple of years ago, and the harmful effects it still has on the country. They did indicate that there was change for the better, but the common practices of the people kept the system in place.

I can sense you would like India to change overnight.Trust me ,that won't happen in your life time.I would focus on myself rather than trying to fix a nation.never ridicule other practice of religious belief without criticizing your own first.
I am a muslin from Guyana SA via India/Pakistan. Living in the USA for the past 31years.
Good luck Mohamed

In a way the caste system seems to parallel the Brit social-class system of centuries ago.
Things change, but in their own time.

I was under the impression that much of that was illegal in India, just not very well enforced (especially in rural areas).
Over time things will get better but trying to force it along too quickly might cause more problems.

when the universities which gives the highest education in the country is itself polluted with casteist professors who encourage/support students of his own caste students to secure good ranks, how can you/we expect this country to progress.
