Hi Folks,

Firstly, I am anti-racist, and having lived in quite a few corners of the world, and I am somewhat dismayed at some minority White Brit. attitudes

However it is a concern that I hear of today of the existance of a Black Police Association.

Fair play in the areas of promoting more non-white Officers, and their welfare in doing a diffcult job.

But, and perhaps a significant "but", If there was the formation of a "White Police Association", then we are going down the dodgy road of segregation, which defeats the whole notion of integration and ethnic tolerance amongst us.

More light-heartedly, I recently filled in a trivial form that asked me for origon.
I ticked the "ethnic minority" box, filled it in as being a Geordie, which I am, and it was duly returned telling me to tick the "White Brit" box.

All opinions thankfully received.

Hello Bob,

Although I have not yet heard of 'The Black Police Association, if it exists then I agree with you, It is a major step backward.

There is already a 'Police Association' which looks after (or should) the welfare and rights of the Police and that should be sufficient.

Once we start 'segregating' associations such as these, many unhealthy issues are raised.

When I see a member of the police force I don't look to see if they are black, white, pink or purple., or male or female. All I see is a police man/woman.

This is the same for any public sector employee, or indeed anyone.

Once these types of organisations appear it smacks of racism. Why is it thought necessary to have organisations working for differing parts of services?

If this has been setup because there is racism in the Police Force itself, which undoubtedly there is, rather than have an organisation to protect those affected, steps should be taken to ensure that racism is stamped out quickly and effectively. The Police Association itself should be doing this.

Anyone found discriminating against another because of their colour, race, sex religion, etc within the Police Force, or any public or private sector for that matter, must be severely disciplined or dismissed.

Anyone being disriminated against in their work cannot function effectively.

This must apply across the board. If a white, or black, or Asian etc is found to be discriminating against another because of their colour or beliefs, it must be stopped and we should not need special or separate associations or branches to achieve this.

We are desperately short of manpower in most of the public sectors. especially the Police Force and the public should be grateful to anyone who enters these careers no matter where they hail from or what their colour.

Those in the Police who are anti others who are not the same as them should also be very grateful as this helps them and helps to take the pressure off.

If I were being mugged in the street and a policeman/woman came to my aid, I would not give a fig what his/her colour is or his/her beliefs. I would be eternally grateful.

You advance a competent element, why is there no subject with "Black purely " unique businesses which includes guess, Ebony, JET, NAACP, and on and on? As with affirmative action, it became mandatory 50 years in the past to offer human beings a raffle, yet this present day and age, any incident ought to be taken in my opinion and not based completely on race. are you able to think of the outrage if a man or woman started a company observed as "white" something? or maybe something like ecu Descendant's team or what ever that remotely smacked of favoring whites? i'm a company believer in equality yet no longer determination!

Anybody who is in the minority needs an outside body that they can go to if they are feeling isolated or having problems with discrimination.

An association for white officers would be totally unnecessary because they are in the majority.

Edit:- I agree that it would be great if the Black Police Association could be disbanded one day because it was no longer necessary.

I think that by it's very name it must be racist. Can you imagine if a "white police officers association " was formed, there would be outrage. A police officer should be a police officer, colour of skin does not matter. Promotion should be on merit, not just to make up quotas etc. The best person for the job should be chosen regardless of gender, sexual orientation, skin colour, etc, etc.
If a white officer tried to join the BPO assoc, would he or she be allowed. If not then that has to be inherently racist. Or does it only work the other way round, which is what it seems to be doing.
I have personal experience of 2 asian officers, both great guys and lovely people but neither of them particularly good at the job. Both got on far quicker than white guys with similar amounts of service, "just in case they play the race card" was the term used I think. This is truly a sad situation.
I am sure there are plenty of good and very efficient asian officers but i am only documenting my own experiences here.
The job is tough enough, cops should be working as a team, not making divisions amongst themselves. That counts as well for senior officers, most of whom forget where they started, on the street. They are too busy watching their own backs and looking for the next step up, to back the, very thin, blue line, which is the front line troops. Its the bad guys out there who are the enemies, not each other.

Was the regular "Police Association" mostly geared towards whites?

You have answered your own question. Don't play dumb anymore.

If its main aim is to make itself unnecessary, and it has clear targets, which once they are met it will disband itself - thats fine.

Otherwise it is just embedding the very thing that (I assume) it claims to be against, so should be disbanded immediately.

(For what it is worth, in my view this should apply to all charities, whatever area they are working in - they should have a purpose and fold once it is complete, not contine to be 'jobs for the boys' indefinitely).

It will be good for the police and bad for the public.
