this is very intresting, becase if we were to look into a mirror on the moon, we would actually be looking back into time, you could easily calculate this "time" we would be looking back because we know the speed of like 3e8 meters/second and the distance from the earth to the moon could be found 384,403,000 meters (thx wiki)
so ill erm divide this an amazing 1.28 seconds.
so if we put the mirror Pluto (still a planet in my heart) or just send it really far away we could look further into the past!
i didnt know other people thought about this stuff like me.
nice post man.

Sure, the concept would be cool, but unfortunately very unpractical :( Besides, it's not like we could walk on the moon or anything! *wink wink* ;) The only thing that would concern me is the reflective powers of the sun against a reflective mirror, even if it is just a 1/4 of a mile. We'd be like ants under a magnifying glass. Wouldn't that possibly up the speed of global warming by burning more holes through our atmosphere? Oh my! I guess that's why you said it was an unpractical idea...*le sigh*. It's a nice dream though isn't it? =D Good question and take care ;)
I like Max B's answer. Very well put and thought out. Makes sense too. Neat to think about. I'd pick his answer as the best if I were you ;) Just saying is all :)

Ya to expand on the above answer, There are mirrors left on the moon by previous astronauts. they are used to bounce lasers off, which you can measuse the return time of, giving you the precise distance! pretty wild
haha max b! nice answer. by the same logic, if i was on a planet that was exactly 25.6 (my age) light years away from earth, and i got out my super mega telescope, and was able to focus in thru the window at the hospital, the light from 25.6 years in the past would just be arriving, and i could see myself being born. lol

certainly, i'm constantly questioning who and what the hell is calling decrease back at me, by using quite a few situations in my life, while i became an quite insecure teenager, once I met my husband i stared for a protracted time into the mirror questioning why he enjoyed me. and while my 3 and a a million/2 week previous daughter died of surprising toddler loss of life, i appeared for form of two hours questioning if i became particularly right here or if i became residing one great huge nightmare. So definite i do usually look interior the mirror and notice somebody else looking decrease back at me. Cathy xxx

There are mirrors on the moon actually. Though your proposal is just ridiculous (not to mention not practical) and we would not be able to see anything this far away with a 1 square mile mirror.

LOL well thats interesting indeed...but wouldnt the sun effect it somehow?? It may reflect off of it and burns us all to death! We would be like ants under a magnifying glass.

I think it would be a very good idea, but would we see the Earth as we want to? What would we see? War.. Poverty? I really wouldn't want to see bad things happening around the world and I can't do anything to stop it.
