easy, cut off all the wires to the key switch and twist them together, or if you have a slide hammer like a body shop mechanic uses, screw the metal bolt of the slide hammer into the key switch where the key goes and knock out the key lock, tumblers, then use a pair of pliers to turn the key switch on, and if its in a garage and its dark and they have motion sensor lights, use a laser pointer at the light sensor and the lights won't come on, and if the door is padlocked where you can't get the quad out, use a cordless dremel tool with a metal round disc and it will cut thru that padlock like butter.

Purchase a new ignition switch.
If you can afford to buy your son a "quad bike" (LOL) you can afford to spend $30 to repair it.
