hiya you might find this site helpful it's about periods puberty and girls.
yes discharge is normal before starting your period it can be white or brown,
you might be slightly embarrassed but there is nothing to worry about. if your too embarrassed to tell your mum or dad you can always leave an note (i done this ha ha)
maybe get your mum to buy in some sanitary towels so that you can keep one in your schoolbag, and if you start in school and you need a sanitary towel speak to a female teacher that you are closest too. i'm sure it's happened to them lots of times
hope this helps

Wow-calm down! It can be embarrassing when you start-depends on where it happens...invest in some panty shields so if you start in school or the middle of the mall you will have a little protection-they are small and not as uncomfortable as regular pads. You can use tampons your first time, but I recommend you have both pads and a box of multi-sized tampons on hand in case you find them uncomfortable. The multi-sized packs are great because sometimes your flow will be heavy and sometimes it might be light. The flow can also vary during the same period. There can be a little discharge before a period and there will be a darker brown at the end of your period...may be kinda clotty...this is called sloughing off of tissues and is normal. I usually crave chocolate and peanut butter a day or so b4 I start. Welcome to womanhood!

There are pads, and tampons and pantiliners. I recommend wearing pantiliners if you have a tampon on, just in case you forget to change it every couple of hours and leak a little. One brand is just as good as the other. If you decide to use pads, stay away from the long ones, they are SUPER annoying, and don't use heavy flow unless you are having a heavy flow, it just adds WAAY too much uneeded padding. And wearing tampons or not is a personal choice, I personally couldn't wear them until I became sexually active. You don't know when you are going to start puberty, and having breasts has nothing to do with when you will start. Just make sure you are prepared and you have supplies with you now, so when you do start, you will be able to prevent embarrassment.

On the tampon issue, you would need to ask your mom if it's ok to use them, but I would recommend using pads to start out with. The brand I like best is Always. Yes, it is normal to have discharge before and even after your periods.
It can be embarrassing for some girls when they start their periods but if they have had a conversation with their moms about having periods it should not be embarrassing at all.
As for the breasts, yes it can mean your period is coming soon.
If you have additional questions for me please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.

First of all, it's a period. You don't need 'protection' (Do you mean protection for your panties?). Go to the store and buy some pads. You can use tampons, but I would go with pads first (and I don't recommend free samples....). You can get your period as early as 9 or as late as mid-teens. It probably will be embarassing when you start, but no one will know about it except you (and perhaps your mother/older sister/doctor). And not to sound gross, but your first few periods will probably be a dull, brown discharge. It's usually not what you expect.

hi!
if you feel like it's going to come soon, wear a pantyliner and carry tampons (not reccommended right away) or pads. Tampax pearl seem to be the best for me, but try out different kinds. You can always look at beinggirl.com or tampax.com for free samples. Discharge before you start is completey normal, this is ovulation. You can't tell exactly when you're going to start, but it will probably be light so don't worry! Embarrassing, maybe, if you're not prepared so just get ready! It's exciting, don't worry!

Tampons or pads, it's up to you. I would start with pads, and then work up to Jr. Tampons (tampax sells them). Brands just depend on your personal preference. Cardboard , plastic, etc....and each brand kind of has a different way that it expands...so it's mostly just trial and error.
I would check out www.gurl.com - they have some pretty good answers.
Look...here's the deal. It's something that every woman goes through. You are going to have good days, and bad days. You're going to have days where you forget to bring a pad, you're going to have heavy days and light days. You just have to figure out your body and go with it.

I wouldn't start with tampons. Get used to the changes in your body first. You might have to experiment with different brands.
The best thing to do is talk to your mom, aunt, or a teacher or neighbor you trust. It might seem embarrassing now, but all women have experienced what you are going through and will feel honored to help you enter this stage of your life.

What to choose is really up to you. I prefer Tampax Pearl tampons, but if you're nervous about using them, you can start out with a maxi pad, such as always. I recommend ultra thins, because they aren't so bulky.
