My building's maintenance dept has been to my townhouse 3 times for a toilet that keeps overflowing. Everytime they come out they snake the line under the building, the last time they said they found nothing. Well, 3 days later and the toilet is clogged again. I have told them on two separate visits that I think there is something stuck in the toilet but they refuse to check it.

I can always tell 3 or 4 flushes before an overflow. The bowl will not drain all the way and there is a loud gurgling sound. There is also a foul odor after we flush.

We have been having problems since we moved in 5 mos ago and it's only me and my husband using the toilet so it's not us clogging it up.

It's an old 3 unit building and none of our neighbors are having problems. We have two other toilets that are not having problems.

It's SO frustrating because I am not a plumber but I have enough sense to check out the trap and toilet. These idiots just keep checking the main line.

We are in military housing so there is no way I am paying for my own plumber. Next time they come here I am not letting them leave until they check out this toilet and p-trap.

If the housing office tries to make us responsible for it I am going to FREAK out on them!!! We've been complaining about this since we moved in and I have taken off work 3 times (20 hours of my life wasted waiting for them to show up). I just can not wait to see what the heck is in there.

You could have something in the "S" trap in the bowl. This might be just considered your problem due to it being in your unit. You'd have to prove you didn't do it.
I have found the tops of spray cans, usually it's the top of a hair spray can floating in the "S" trap and catching "things" as they go buy, plugging the toilet temporarily, then starting all over again. This or some other plastic thing that floats, even cell phones.

What I've had to do was drain the toilet and get all the water out, use a small mirror to see what's up behind the "S" trap then try and snake it out with a coat hanger. Doing this instead of taking the whole toilet off, sometimes you have to.

They are checking the main sewers under the building. lifting the manholes, no doubt.. Possibly this lower level is clear.. Should be able to check by putting a dye down your loo, flushing and seeing if the dye appears in the manhole... Might be internal in the building.... If the building is new might be building debris in the system which then clogs with toilet use.. might even be constructed wrongly... probably needs rodding from inside or a TV scan investigation.. If their are other occupiers of the block ,,are they suffering too?

Got Kids? Missing a tooth brush? I will bet green $ that there is a tooth brush stuck in the trap! They will have to lift the toilet off turn it upside down in the bath tub because the ONLY way to get it out is through the bottom. In some cases I even had to heat the tooth brush up with a torch so it would bend enough to pull it out. They will need a flash light to see it , have one handy when they come back.
