Would you agree with me that a canadian team wold never ever get a chance at getting him even if toronto or edmonton or montreal went 0-82 they still wouldn't get him, because it's all setup to market him for usa adiences, just like Sidney Crosby(did you seriously think he had a shot at going to a canadian team?) I mean look at the past 1st overall picks, whens the last time a canadian team had the first or second overall pick?( gary bettman is an unfair piece of garbage if you ask me, he set's this all up)

Because think about it, bettman is trying to sell hockey in the southern states and thats a bust, and now he's trying to expand to europe?. because if say calgary got him it would only appeal to canadian hockey fans right, big deal thats just unfair

If a Canadian team wanted Crosby bad enough, they would have got him. Besides, the Canadiens made their name by having provincial rights to players from Quebec until that was overturned.

Still, who drafted Alexandre Daigle, Chris Phillips, Owen Nolan, Wendel Clark, Dale Hawerchuk, Doug Wickenheiser, Guy LaFleur, Rejean Houle, Michel Plasse, and Garry Monahan?

Just show up when Tavares gets drafted by a Canadian team - unless he pulls an Eric Lindros.

This is a stupid theory. First of all, who knows how bad some of the Canadian teams are going to be next year. It all depends on how bad a team does in the season prior to the draft. Even if you have the worst record by far, it's no guarantee that you will get first overall. Just look at Philadelphia last year.

Looking at the Canadian teams right now, it certainly doesn't look like any of them will be the bottom 5 NHL teams next year. Ottawa has got all its core players locked up, with the exception of Wade Redden and Jason Spezza. Montreal's young forwards, such as Higgins, Plekanec, Latendresse are just now hitting their prime. Toronto has young forwards and defenseman who are still learning to play defensive hockey; they might be the only Canadian team with a shot at first overall, if they absolutely tank. Vancouver has Roberto Luongo, enough said. Calgary look like Stanley Cup contenders again. Finally, Edmonton has the great young core of forwards up front who will only get better.

As you can see, unless a Canadian team tanks, there's not a high chance of a first overall pick. If I'm not mistaken. only a worst 5 team can get 1st overall, and when was the last time a Canadian team finished in the bottom 5?

Are you serious? You can't beat your chest about how much better Canadian teams are and ***** about them not getting a lottery pick at the same time.

Besides, Canadian based teams represent 20% of NHL franchises so, assuming average competence and performance across the board, they'd STILL have a 1 in 5 shot at the lottery.

Lastly, the 6 Canadian teams are stacked in two divisions. Given the NHL 'rivalry' schedule, how can more than half of them be expected to miss the playoffs every year, much less land in the bottom 5 consistently.

Canadian teams have more demanding fans than American teams.

Canadian fans want their team to draft John Tavares, but they want them to do it without finishing last overall.

Canadian ownership groups are more interested in winning than some American ownership groups.

As FlamesFan and formerlysuspendedguy said.............Canadian teams aren't playing bad enough to win the John Tavares sweepstakes. And since I don't see Bettman spotting Canadian teams 20 points at the start of the year...........I'm not sure he has a whole lot to do with it.

Barring a score of injuries, no risk in he** he's on the plane to Vancouver. Too many adult adult males ahead of him interior the pecking order, and Yzerman and Babcock have suggested they don't look to be going with the greater youthful adult adult males (that's team Canada's m.o.- remember they did not take Crosby to Torino in 2006 the place there become no small volume of ink being spilled suggesting they might desire to). If the NHL participates in Sochi, Tavares would desire to nicely be a area of the communication.

Your Serious? lmfao

The reason a Canadian is not getting the 1st or 2nd overall pick is because they are playing better then the American teams that are finishing last.

Its not because its set up.

I probably like a good conspiracy theory as much as the next guy, but I don't think this one has the legs. In order to get the first or second draft pick, your team has to be really bad. Try as they might, Savard, Ferguson, and Lowe, seem intent on keeping their teams bad enough to avoid drafting the players required to get good.

When's the last time that a Canadian team was even in the Draft Lottery? I mean if they aren't in the lottery they aren't going to get the number one or two pick.

I don't know about your theory, but chances are, he won't be drafted by a Canadian team. There're only six Canadian teams and 24 American teams.
