Because Churchill was a member of the Conservative Party at the naive age of 25 and a member of the Liberal Party at age 35.

STRAIGHT FROM THE CHURCHILL CENTRE

"If you're not a liberal when you're 25, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative by the time you're 35, you have no brain."

There is no record of anyone hearing Churchill say this. Paul Addison of Edinburgh University makes this comment: "Surely Churchill can't have used the words attributed to him. He'd been a Conservative at 25 and a Liberal at 35! and would he have talked so disrespectfully of Clemmie, who is generally thought to have been a lifelong Liberal.

Not really dude.

Liberal and Conservative mean the same thing in Great Britain.

The Liberal Party, however, is extinct and was replaced with the Labour Party.

Wow... with question after meaningless question on the subject you have just made me want to loose all rational thought and common sense and become a liberal. So much easier I guess.... don't have to think for myself anymore... just spew talking points... don't have to be innovative or hard working... I can just let the government take care of me.

So thanks for showing me the light... you and Winston! Oh... just don't look into what Churchill really stood for in the face of political issues... you might just be dissapointed.

Churchill said a great many really dumb thing as we all have. but he had the misfortune of having people remember them. I am puzzled why people quote him as an authority. since you can support any point of view with something he said. Social scientist have actually investigated how political opinion changes with age and found that most people don't change much as they age, and for those that do, about half become more liberal. People who switch party preference are most often motivated by a change in the position of the parties on an issue important to them..

self deprecating humor i guess

or at a older age he realized something he didn't while younger which is the Crux of the statement

and lib and conservative in England is allot different than in the US

the labor party would be considered the socialist party here not the Democratic party

i actually like some of his other quotes like

why stand when you can sit , and why sit when you can lie down.

or

miss Astor met whinny at a party and told him " if you were my husband id poison you"

and he replied

if you were my wife , id let you

It was not Churchill. Try Yahoo-Answers answers.
Indeed meaningless due to the lacking definitions.
Still a comfortable self-pleasuring instrument for some.

Bill Clinton said "I did NOT have sexual relations with that woman" ... and yet he DID.

You're STILL missing the entire point. I find it hilarious how you're SO fixated on proving who DIDN'T say it that you are missing the fact that it's TRUE!

Perhaps, he was a better philosopher than he was a politician.
