I think the trailer and the truck has not been registered in his name yet. There are two cars which are from Canada. One car from California which I don't know if he registered or not. I do not have money to pay rent for a year if things go into limbo what to do then

first off did he leave a will?
without one things can get kind of sticky, like his vehicle's if they are just in his name only, they could be put in limbo for up to 1 yr along with the rest of his estate.
go see a lawyer most will talk to you at least one time for free.
check both laws in CA & canada

I'm sorry to learn of your loss. I lost my Dad this year also.

I'm afraid that depending on the place where the items are stored, you are legally bound to probate both in California and Canada. Since he died without a will, things are legally messy.

You may be able to avoid probate with a written declaration that the estate is worth less than $25,000 and there will not be a probate hearing. (The dollar amount varies by state.) You and his wife simply sign the declaration and present it to the place where the items are being stored.
You then transport the items to home in Canada and handle the estate there.

The sticky wicket is the cars and trailer lacking titles. Storage can be $25.00 a day or more some places. After so many days, the items are sold off as abandoned to cover the cost of storage. If you are able to get them out of storage, then getting them into Canada without a car title can be iffy.

Was your father married? Are there other children? Check out the probate website http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/forms/fillable/de121.pdf
