Hard drives are sealed to keep out dust, and smoke. You will have to smoke for quite a while for the buildup inside your computer case to be a problem. The dust will probably collect faster.

As an ex-pc service center employee and seeing the customers face to face and getting a good whiff *faint*. I smoked back then but these guys were chimneys and their computers were not in the shop because of their smoking, some were really super old computers too. Yeah I've seen the insides of them, dusty like everyone elses but just keep your ashes from getting inside. Keep the side panel on if you smoke.

A smoker hard drive will have a 50% shorter life. This fact has been common knowledge for techs since the 386 days. These other wannbe's obviously do not have a clue. A bigger danger though is the dust that accumulates inside your PC, plugging the fans. causing overheating and failing of video cards, power supplies and on occasions cpu's.

Not the hard drive, at least not in your lifetime. There's a slight chance that all the extra particulates in your air could contribute to early failure of the cooling fans as crud (technical term) builds up on the blades but I've never seen it yet.

No...hard drives are sealed units, no air gets into them. Smoke creates only one problem..on the fan and cooling fins...coats with tar and insulates them to some extent. Clean with alcohol occasionally and you are fine. Also, smoke makes the screen dim with time, so clean it with monitor cleaner. Good luck, Goldwing

Yes, of course, the smoke and ash can influence and distroy any electronic devices. Regardin PC, the smoke can clog up the fan and other interactive hardware. To prevent it, you can use an USB smokeless ashtray. To have an idea of this gadget, just follow the link.

unless you blow it directly into the computer and nowhere else, not realy. there's 2-5 fans inside a computer, all moving to keep things like that away.
